]]>The latest Grey’s Anatomy episode “Look Up Child”, fully focused on Avery’s arc, allowing him to tie some loose ends and give this beloved character the send-off he deserves. Williams will return in the upcoming episode “Tradition” on May 20th, which will also be his last.
Williams released an official statement announcing his departure, where he thanked the team behind this show “for the boundless opportunities” and said he’s immensely proud of their work. “As an actor, director and person, I have been obscenely lucky to learn so much from so many and I thank our beautiful fans, who breathe so much energy and appreciation into our shared worlds. The experience and endurance born of creating nearly 300 hours of leading global television is a gift I’ll carry always.”
Since joining Grey’s Anatomy in 2009, Williams also appeared in its spin-off Station 19, in addition to several other movies and TV shows—including The Cabin in the Woods, The Butler, and Little Fires Everywhere. He also breached out to production and recently produced the Oscar-winning short film Two Distant Strangers.

]]>Grey’s Anatomy executive producer and showrunner Krista Vernoff confirmed that the last produced episode of the hit medical drama will serve as the series’ season 16 finale.
Vernoff provided some clarity on Twitter, confirming that the now season 16 closer will be a “satisfying” one.
“We will resume our storytelling in Season 17,” she wrote. “We are disappointed that we don’t get to complete our storytelling this season. The good news? 1621 plays like a satisfying finale! It’s not where we planned to end, but it’s beautiful & the questions that linger we will answer next year.”
In April 9 episode, Put on a Happy Face, “Link tries to convince Amelia to take it easy during the final stage of her pregnancy; Hayes asks Meredith a surprising question; Owen makes a shocking discovery.”

]]>Veteran Grey’s Anatomy star Justin Chambers is leaving the series after 15 years. Chambers played Dr. Alex Karev since ABC’s hit medical drama’s first season.
“There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” Chambers told Deadline. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”
He also took a moment to thank the network, crew and fellow actors: “As I move on from Grey’s Anatomy, I want to thank the ABC family, Shonda Rimes, original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, and the rest of the amazing cast and crew, both past and present, and, of course, the fans for an extraordinary ride.”
In response to Vanity Fair’s tweet, “Grey’s Anatomy is about to feel one of its biggest losses yet,” Pompeo wrote, “Truer words have never been spoken,” and we couldn’t agree more.

]]>The hit ABC medical drama has added the Shameless star to its call sheet as Grey Sloan Memorial’s new head of Pediatric Surgery.
As you may or may not know, at the end of season 15’s finale, Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chamber) was fired by Bailey (alongside Meredith Grey and Richard Webber). Since then he’s moved to a new hospital with Dr. Webber, where he serves as the Chief of Surgery.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Flood is set to recur on season 16 of ABC’s hit medical drama as Dr. Cormac Hayes at Grey Sloan Memorial.
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
