]]>David Tennant, who previously portrayed the Tenth Doctor, is set to return to the iconic role again—and he won’t be alone. He’ll have great company in Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, who opens the trailer by reminiscing about the past, “Sometimes, I think there’s something missing. Like I had something lovely and it’s gone.”
In addition to bringing back a few fan favorites, the new teaser also introduced us to several brand-new characters. Most notably, the Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa makes his first appearance before taking over from Tennant as the Time Lord in the show’s future season.
This trailer is teasing Doctor Who’s 60th-anniversary special, which also marks the return of the acclaimed showrunner Russell T Davies. The special will premiere in November 2023 and consist of three episodes. Davies will stay on board to anchor Doctor Who into the new era in Season 14 led by Gatwa, set to premiere in 2024.

]]>Gatwa is following in the footsteps of David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker, who became the first female Time Lord in 2017. His casting is just as historic because this marks the first time the Doctor will be played by a black actor.
Gatwa’s casting isn’t the only thing that got us excited about the new season of Doctor Who. It will also mark the return of showrunner Russell T Davies, who’s often been credited for the show’s renaissance, and he couldn’t be more excited to welcome Gatwa into the TARDIS.
“The future is here and it’s Ncuti! Sometimes talent walks through the door and it’s so bright and bold and brilliant, I just stand back in awe and thank my lucky stars. Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds,” said Davies in a statement.
The first episodes of Season 14 of Doctor Who are expected to air in Fall 2023, when the iconic show marks its 60th anniversary.

]]>Multiple outlets confirm that both Stephen Fry and Lenny Henry have been confirmed as guest stars on the hit time-travel show. They reportedly banked ‘major roles.’
“It was absolutely brilliant to be welcomed into the fantastical world of Doctor Who,” said Henry. “The nearest I have been to the TARDIS was when I played the Caribbean Doctor in the Lenny Henry Show, so as a lifelong (hiding-behind-the-sofa-type) Doctor Who fan, this is a very special moment for me.”
Added Fry, “Short of being picked for a British space exploration program, and I readily concede that I’m past the age where I’d be considered (if I was ever the right age for such a posting), then being in an episode of Doctor Who will certainly do as a very sweet second-place excitement.”
“Doctor Who is coming back with a bang — with two great British icons in major roles,” added showrunner Chris Chibnall. “One of the great joys of Doctor Who is getting to work with actors from your wish list. Stephen and Lenny are two of my absolute favorite actors — and to be able to bring them into Doctor Who, in one of our biggest ever stories to kick off the new season, is an absolute thrill.”
News of Fry and Henry’s casting follows news from earlier this week that filming on the forthcoming season has officially ended.

]]>The Doctor Parts With Rose Tyler
The number one most heart-breaking moment has surely got to be the devastating departure of Rose Tyler. The chemistry between Rose and the Doctor had been building over the season, but right before he get to say “I love you,” the walls of the universe closed and Rose became trapped on a parallel Earth forever.
Donna Forgets
Donna shaped up to be an unlikely hero. She displayed remarkable courage and compassion in the face of danger. Across the season, we watched her grow in confidence, only to have her memory wiped for good after saving the universe from Davros.
The Human Doctor and Rose Reunite
The moment when the Doctor and Rose reunite is beautiful, only it’s bittersweet. Rose gets her happy ending only as the Tardis flies off, she throws one last look back at her Doctor, who will never get to see the love of his life again.
Amy Goes Back for Rory
Amy and Rory’s departure was another tear-jerker. Rory gets sent back in time to 20th century New York and Amy must make the decision to either stay with the Doctor and never see him again, or follow Rory and never see the Doctor again. She fortunately chose right.
The Ood Sing Their Song
One subtle moment that always gets me is the ood’s song in Donna’s season. The peaceful creatures are so trusting that they hold their hearts in their hands, only this leads to them being imprisoned and used as slaves. The ood’s song to Donna is so touching and beautiful that we shed a tear with Donna every time.

Marvin the Paranoid Android is one of the best characters in the film. Radiohead must have thought so too, because they wrote one of their biggest hits about him.
Nexus-6 Pris (Blade Runner)
The blond and gothy Pris from Scott Ridley’s original Blade Runner is cool, badass and well, lethal.
Ultron (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
The deadly robot Ultron in the Marvel Cinematic Universe makes quite the villain.
Bender (Futurama)
Bender has a terrible attitude, but he is hilarious, so we’ll let him on the list.
Wall-E (Wall-E)
Wall-E has got to be the most lovable robot (who doesn’t really say anything) of all time. And he saved the human race, so that’s good too.
Terminator (Terminator)
Terminator is one of the most awesome looking robots we can think of.
Data (Star Trek)
Does Data feel love?
Bumblebee (Transformers)
The Transformers franchise went downhill pretty rapidly, but Bumblebee still remains one of our top bots.

Well, obviously.

]]>In last weekend’s episode, the Doctor and the new gang found themselves chasing giant creepy crawlies across Yorkshire. They source the root of the problem to the hotel where Yasmin’s mum worked, until she got fired for no good reason at the start of the episode.
With every episode that passes, the gang is becoming increasingly likable. Watching Graham (Bradley Walsh) grieve his late wife, Grace, is extremely touching, and when he decides that travelling in the TARDIS is the best way to grieve, we’re all rooting for him. It’s also interesting watching Yasmin and figuring out whether the romantic spark this season will be between her and Ryan (Tosin Cole) or her and the Doctor.
Chris North also made an appearance this episode and his character couldn’t be further from his rendition of Mr Big in Sex and the City. He plays an extremely rich, extremely mean business owner with no compassion for anyone but himself. Watching him get chased by a spider the size of an elephant was highly amusing, especially given the satirical relationship between him and Donald Trump.
Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor is shaping up to be a lot of fun, although her acting is becoming increasingly cartoonish. Her version of the Doctor is constantly hyper and has no clue what’s going on half the time. It’s entertaining at first, but we’re hoping that things will calm down a bit as the series progresses.
The plot of the episode was also quite weak. When it was discovered that the spiders were the result of a chemical wasteland 28 Days Later-type scenario, it looked like giant arachnids were going to take over the world. Instead, the mother of the arachnid invasion grew too big to breathe. The Doctor was naturally very sympathetic to the spider but the arrogant hotel owner walks in and shoots it dead. It was all over very quickly.
Overall, episode 4 is the weakest of the season so far. Nonetheless, with three new companions and a cluster of new writers, we’re excited to see what the sci-fi show will bring us next.

Whittaker doesn’t need a special introduction from us, since she does it well for herself by saying: “I’m the Doctor,” at the beginning of the trailer. Jodie Whittaker already made her Doctor Who debut during the show’s 2017 Christmas special, which showed the regeneration of a new doctor. We also had a chance to see her in action when BBC showed a teaser trailer of the new season during the San Diego Comic-Con 2018.
Season 11 is set to premiere on 7 October 2018 and will consist of ten episodes alongside a Christmas Special.

]]>The buzz around the new season of Doctor Who has been bigger than it’s been in the recent years, especially as Jodie Whittaker will be the first woman to take on the role as the Doctor.
The new writers taking over from Steven Moffatt will also have big shoes to fill given that he has created some of the best Doctor Who episodes to date and began regularly writing for the show all the way back in 2010.
BBC has revealed that showrunner Chris Chibnall was joined by Malorie Blackman, Ed Hime, Vinay Patel, Pete McTighe and Joy Wilkinson for this season’s scripts.
Malorie Blackman, who led the team of additional writers, is author of the Noughts and Crosses series.
“I’ve always loved Doctor Who,” said Blackman. “Getting the chance to write for this series has definitely been a dream come true.”
Vinay Patel is an award winning TV writer who’s debut Murdered Be My Father was nominated for three BAFTAS.
He said: “I grew up watching shows like Star Trek and Quantum Leap on the edge of my dad’s bed, and I loved how they managed to capture the imagination of a kid like me as well as acting as a moral compass. I never imagined that I’d get to write for Doctor Who – I was pretty thrilled.”
Jodie Whittaker’s series will premiere on the BBC in October.

]]>Former executive producer Steven Moffat has said that he had plans for Faye Marsay, who played Shona in the 2014 Doctor Who Christmas special, to replace Clara as the Doctor’s companion. When Jenna Coleman did leave, she was replaced by Pearl Mackie, who played Bill Potts.
“I was eyeing up the possibility of writing the part of Shona as the replacement [for Jenna],” Moffatt said. “There’s a commonality between [her and Bill Potts]. I knew where I wanted to go next was a kind of earthy irreverence, I guess, if I put it in the most basic terms. I hadn’t got a fully-formed character, but I was messing around with that.”
He added: “I had already persuaded [Coleman] to come back and do Christmas and [said], ‘I’ve got a big ending for you where you turn out to be an old lady and you die at the end as an old lady.’
“That was the original ending to Last Christmas, and the ending we had at the read-through… and after the read-through, we went into a side room with Jenna where she was just, she wasn’t ready to go. New showrunner Chris Chibnall also promised brand new foes for Jodie Whittaker’s doctor.
“We’ve got a new Doctor, all-new characters, all-new monsters, all-new stories,” Chibnall told the Radio Times. “It’s going to be exciting, emotional and the most enormous fun.”

“It was really important to me that there’s no barrier to entry,” Chibnall said in his Radio Times interview. “You don’t need to know about anything that’s come before.”
