]]>Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiered in the U.S. on November 11 and it didn’t take it long to top the box office, with $180 million earned domestically. Globally, it earned a total of $330 million, marking this the third-highest start for any Hollywood title during the pandemic era.
The premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was somewhat bittersweet for the fans of the franchise because it comes about two years after Chadwick Boseman’s shocking death.
Instead of casting another actor as King T’Challa, his sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) took over as Black Panther in Wakanda Forever, with Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett returning in their respective roles from the first film.
Wakanda Forever shows the people of Wakanda mourning the death of their king while also fighting the protect their home from intervening world powers. Tenoch Huerta takes on the role of the film’s main villain, with Dominique Thorne and Michaela Coel also joining the cast as newcomers to the MCU.

This major plot change was made after the actor Chadwick Boseman passed away in 2020, following a private battle with cancer. Writer-director Ryan Coogler and the stars of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever paid homage to the late actors at Comic-Con and looked back at his legacy.
“I promise you, I feel his hand on me right now… Chad’s passion and genius and his culture and the impact he made on this industry will be felt forever,” said Coogler.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is coming to theatres on November 11, as the final film of the MCU’s Phase Four. Its cast will include Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett, and newcomers Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, and Tenoch Huerta.

Avatar only just makes the list given that it will be approaching its ten year anniversary this year. When a film takes as long as it did to make, you better expect it to be stunning. And it didn’t disappoint.
Inception may be full of plot holes and confusion, but the cinematography cannot be faulted. The dream sequences and architectural montages are phenomenal.
I am reluctant to include Gravity because the storyline was so disappointing. The cinematography, however, was unparalleled.
We hesitantly proclaim Black Panther to be the best movie of 2018. It may not have taken the Oscar this year, but the African-noir cinematography was incredible.
When talking about cinematography, an arty horror movie is an essential part of the list. 2018’s Hereditary is our top pick.
There is a reason that The Favourite received a ton of Oscar nominations. It’s pretty much flawless.
A beautifully rendered black-and-white tale, which truly is Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón’s masterpiece.
The animated superhero feature was a surprising treat in 2018. It was mindblowing at the cinema and even better in 3D.

]]>The post Let’s Talk About… Black Panther’s Oscar Wins appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>The Award Ceremony marks the first time that any MCU film has won an Oscar. MCU has brought us visual-effect feasts like Guardians Of The Galaxy along with the enormously popular Avengers franchise. On top of this, Hannah Beachler and Ruth E. Carter became the first African-American women to win Oscars in their categories (Production and Costume Design).
“This has been a long time coming,” Ruth Carter said in her acceptance speech. “Marvel may have created the first black superhero but through costume design we turned him into an African king.”
But why is this so important? Let’s rewind back to early 2018 when there was a huge buzz surrounding Black Panther and the cultural footprint it was about to make. The movie marked the first time in history that a mainstream, megabudget movie featured a predominantly black cast and director. This movie then went onto become one of the highest grossing movies of all time.
It isn’t just the case that Black Panther has a black cast. The movie is a celebration of African and African American culture. It unapologetically deals with the modern experience of being black, both in America and the fictional world of Wakanda. What’s more, Black Panther has given millions of children who may have struggled to find a superhero they identify with a whole new host of phenomenal characters to dress up as on Halloween.
One of the remarkable successes of Black Panther is not simply the fact that the film is so wonderfully Afrocentric. What is impressive is how it became an extremely popular movie, both among MCU fans and elsewhere. While sometimes mainstream movies are accused of appropriating black culture in ways that make it “more consumable” for White American audiences, Black Panther did not compromise its identity for the mainstream and the mainstream loved it. And now it has three Oscars. It has three Oscars which prove that Black Panther objectively is a great movie, with sensational costume design, production and music. And that is something to celebrate.
