The Last Duel has an epic cast—Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, and Ben Affleck are starring in the historical film.

Directed by Oscar-nominated director Ridley Scott and based on Eric Jager’s book The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France, the film follows one of France’s last legally sanctioned duels. Set in 1386, King Charles VI (Affleck) declares a duel between knight Jean de Carrouges (Damon) and his squire Jacques LeGris (Driver) to settle a debt after the knight’s wife (Comer) claims she was sexually assaulted. The two will fight to death and whoever survives is the truth-teller in God’s eyes. If Carrouges loses, his wife will be burned at the stake for false accusations.

Nicole Holofcener, Affleck, and Damon wrote the film, which is based on true events. Scott, Kevin J. Walsh, Jennifer Fox, Holofcener, Damon, and Affleck serve as producers. Kevin Halloran, Drew Vinton, and Madison Ainley are executive producers.

The film will be released on October 15. Watch the trailer below.

Cannes Film Festival was one of many major events put on hold last year, but it’s set to return in its full glory this summer. This highly-anticipated event is already shaping up to be amazing, and it will open with the world premiere of Leos Carax’s Annette starring Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver.

Annette is Carax’s English-language debut and his first film to arrive at Cannes almost a decade after Holy Motors, which was in the running for a Palme d’Or in 2012.

The festival’s director Pierre Lescure believes Carax will deliver the same kind of spectacle with his next project. “Every Leos Carax film is an event. And this one delivers on its promises! Annette is the gift that lovers of cinema, music, and culture were hoping for, one that we have been yearning for during the past year,” said Lescure in a press release.

In addition to Cotillard and Driver, Annette also stars Simon Helberg and the young Belgian singer Angèle. It centers on a celebrity couple—a stand-up comedian and a world-famous soprano singer, whose lives turn upside down after their daughter is born with a unique gift.

The 74th Cannes Film Festival will take place between July 6th and 17th, and the rest of the lineup is yet to be announced.

Adam Driver is in talks to join The Last Duel.

Should the Star Wars actor board the project he is set to star opposite Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Killing Eve star Jodie Comer.

Ridley Scott is directing the epic tale set in 14th century France from a screenplay adaptation by Damon and Ben Affleck with Nicole Holofcener.

The film, a story of betrayal and justice, is told from three points of view — two knights (Driver and Damon) whose bond is tested and a young woman (Comer), is forced to navigate the brutal and oppressive culture of the era in order to survive.

Should Disney and Fox green light the period drama, it should begin production in early 2020.
