Besides the upcoming fourth installment of The Purge franchise, we are also getting a TV show from the franchise in 2018. Although we don’t have many details about the show so far, Jason Blum, head of Blumhouse Productions, which will produce the project, recently shared some updates in an interview with the Den of Geek.
“We’re working on kind of exploring what it’s like to live the rest of the year in a world where you can kill someone on a certain day of the year,” said Blum. “It definitely makes you think twice if you’re driving and you give someone the finger or something like that. So we’re definitely thinking about different things that might happen in a society where killing was legal 12 hours a year. There are a lot of things that you don’t think about. You could commit a murder, and then somehow make it seem like it happened on Purge Night and get away with it. There are a lot of things that you can do with that idea, and we’re trying to think of all those different situations in that world.”
Franchise creator James DeMonaco is believed to be heavily involved in The Purge TV show as well.
Original The Purge came out of nowhere in 2013 and took smashed the box office. Ok, not exactly smashed, but it earned close to $90 million at the box office, compared to $3 million budget, which is quite impressive. After the success of the first movie, two sequels followed, with each one being more commercially successful than the other. The fourth installment in the franchise titled The Purge: The Island, will be a prequel and is scheduled for release at some point in 2018. Also, this movie will be the first one that won’t be directed by James DeMonaco.
