Julian Glover Admits He Got Bored Of His Character On “Game of Thrones”

Julian Glover in "Game of Thrones"

While the likes of Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams have tearfully said goodbye to Game of Thrones, Julian Glover admits that he actually begged the producers to kill him off because he got so bored of his character.

Glover played Maester Pycelle, an influential member of the small council at King Landing for much of the series. Although his character is intelligent and has an extent of behind-the-scenes power, he is ultimately just a servant to the crown and Glover eventually tired of playing him.

“I didn’t want to do [Season 6] because I realized I was being completely dismissed as a character and everyone,” Glover admitted in an interview with IGN. “Cersei ticked me off all the time, and I never had any comeback. So that wasn’t any fun to play.

“So I went to them and said… “Look, I don’t want to do this anymore, it’s not interesting to go on doing this and go on doing this, and what’s going to happen to him?” And they said, “Oh, you can’t go, we’ve got a wonderful scene for you.” “Okay, can I see the scene?” “Oh, no, you can’t see the scene,” because you know, the whole thing is of keeping it secret, which is understandable.”

He added: “Anyway, to cut a long story short, I got the scene, and it was my death scene, which is a damn good scene. And this is exactly the sort of way I wanted to go out.”

And oh yeah… the first episode of Game of Thrones Season 8 is released tomorrow (April 14)!
