10 Facts We Learned from Seth Rogen’s Twitter About “Pineapple Express”

James Franco, Seth Rogen, and Danny McBride in "Pineapple Express"

Pineapple Express is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. In celebration, Seth Rogen has shared a series of facts over Twitter about the movie. Given that some of them are quite frankly hilarious, we’ve decided to ensemble our favorites into a list. Without further ado, here are our 10 favorite facts we just learned about Pineapple Express.

  1. Rogen and Evan Goldberg had to roll 100 odd cross-shaped joints because nobody else on the crew could roll them properly.
  2. The name Pineapple Express did not originate in the movie. It’s a Hawaiin weather system.
  3. While filming the fight scene at Red’s house, Rogen broke his finger and Danny McBride got his head cracked open by a bong.
  4. They originally wrote the movie for Seth to play Saul and Franco to play Dale but ended up switching.
  5. Red was originally supposed to die the first time he was shot, but they thought he was so funny they kept bringing him back to life.
  6. In the scene where Red is taped to a chair, Danny was actually taped to a chair and had to stay there all day because it took too long to put him back.
  7. Rogen did 99% of his own stunts in the movie.
  8. Saul calls his worst weed “Snicklefritz” in the movie because Rogen’s practical FX supervisor used to use it as an insult when he didn’t like what his second-in-command was doing, and they thought it was hilarious.
  9. Kanye West came to the Pineapple Express premiere.
  10. Bryan Cranston actually auditioned for the movie and Judd Apatow said he didn’t seem “scary enough to be a drug dealer.” Oh the irony!
