Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror has gripped us with a range of imaginative dystopian worlds, technologies, and ideas. Some of the concepts the show present, however, are harder to chew than others. Here is a list of our Top 5 darkest Black Mirror technologies and why they got under our skin. Spoilers alert.

The “cookie” inWhite Christmas”

The technology extracts a copy of a person’s consciousness and puts it in an egg. Once inside the egg, it is up to the user to decide the “cookie’s” experience and how long they are in there for. At the end of the episode, Joe’s “cookie”, who we have been watching the whole episode, is set to experience 1000 years per minute. The idea of thousands of years in isolation is maddening to even ponder.

The memory wiping machine in “White Bear”.

The whole episode is shocking but a technology that wipes your entire memory so that you have to experience the same day over and over indefinitely is frightening in itself.

Robert Daly’s game simulation in “USS Callister”.

What is terrifying about this technology is that the conscious duplicates in the game all start off unaware that they are duplicates and assume themselves to be the original. Once in the game, their fates are entirely in Robert’s hands and he is not always a benevolent creator.

The eternal torture in “Black Museum”.

In terms of horror factor, this is probably the darkest technology. Visitors of the museum can execute Clayton on the electric chair then take home a keychain containing a duplicate of his consciousness, trapped eternally in his final moments of agony. It’s a man-made hell on Earth.

The resurrected boyfriend in “Be Right Back”.

Some of the other technologies might be more extreme, but there is something incredibly unsettling about the technology that allows you to purchase a humanoid version of your deceased partner. The technology uses the digital trace of the deceased to recreate their speech and personality – only there is nothing inside.

One of the many reasons Rick and Morty is so popular is the wide variety of whacky characters which feature throughout the series. From butter-passing robots to tentacled aliens and the devil himself, the show has everything. We couldn’t pick our favorites so without further ado, here is a list of our top 5 most ridiculous characters.

5. “Fart”

He is a colorful gas cloud who Morty nicknames “fart” and he is on the run from assassins. Voiced by Jemaine Clement, “fart” is one of the more surreal yet highly entertaining characters of the show.

4. Million Ants

He is made of one million ants and he fights crime.

3. Mr. Meeseeks

Meeseeks are a species whose entire existence rests on completing the tasks they were summoned for. If they don’t complete the task, they go insane from boredom.

2. Mr. Poopybutthole

Everyone loves him and we’re still not quite sure who he is and why he suddenly appeared in Season 2’s “Total Rickall.” His role in the show is as ridiculous as his name suggests but fans adore him anyway.

1. Tommy Lipnip

In my opinion, despite being human, Tommy is probably the most ridiculous character in the entire show. He was abandoned by Beth in her Rick-made world “Froopyland.” In order to survive, he has intercourse with Froopyland creatures and then eats the children. When Beth tries to take him home, he insists on staying in Froopyland where he is King and indulges in a perpetual cycle of incest and cannibalism. That’s got to be about as ridiculous as it can get.

We can’t wait to see what ridiculous characters Season 4 will bring.

Johnny Depp has been featured in over 64 films and he has played about every kind of role you can think of. In no particular order, here are five of our favourites.

Edward Scissorhands (Edward Scissorhands)

Edward Scissorhands is the first of many movies where Johnny Depp worked with director Tim Burton. It is definitely one of the more eccentric roles that he has played.

Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean)

It might be a little cliche, but how can we not put Jack Sparrow on here?

Traveller Roux (Chocolat)

Lasse Hallstrom directed one of Depp’s lesser-known films, Chocolat. It’s a beautiful romance about travellers who open up a chocolate shop in a small French town. If you ask me, anything with Jonny’s cheekbones and gourmet chocolate is absolutely worth a watch.

The Mad Hatter (Alice in Wonderland)

Johnny’s take on Tim Burton’s re-imagining of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland is fabulous. His whacky costume definitely contributes to the absolute pleasure watching him take on this role.

Raoul Duke (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas)

Drug-addled Raoul is one of the Johnny Depp roles people often forget about. He takes too much acid, trashes a hotel room, tries to drive back to LA then takes even more acid. The movie is essentially a two hour drug binge but it was destined to be a cult classic from the start.
