“Succession” & “The Bear” Were the Big Winners at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards

After several major delays, the Primetime Emmy Awards finally returned to LA on Monday night, and they were worth waiting for! HBO’s Succession and FX’s The Bear walked away with six trophies each, including the coveted awards for the best drama and comedy series.

Succession ended with a bang last year, and its final season received 14 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations. It eventually walked away with six accolades, including outstanding drama series, directing and writing honors for the episode “Connor’s Wedding”, plus acting trophies for its stars Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen.

FX’s culinary dramedy The Bear cooked up some magic with its first season, and it now has six Emmys to show for it. It was named the outstanding drama series, while the showrunner Christopher Storer won two more Emmys for his work as its director and writer. Its stars Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri triumphed in acting categories.

Netflix bosses also had a reason to celebrate, after their hit limited series Beef walked away with five trophies – outstanding limited or anthology series, writing and directing honors for Lee Sung Jin, plus acting awards for the leading duo Steven Yeun and Ali Wong.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were broadcast on Fox from LA’s Peacock Theater on January 15, with Anthony Anderson serving as the first-time host.

2024 Golden Globes: “Oppenheimer” & “Succession” Crowned as Top Winners

This year’s awards season is finally reaching the fever pitch, and the Golden Globes did a great job setting the stage for things to come. It was a big night for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and HBO’s Succession, which were crowned as the biggest winners in their respective fields.

Oppenheimer was one of the ceremony’s most-nominated films with eight nods, and it managed to walk away with five of them including best motion picture – drama. Its stars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. won awards for their respective performances, Christopher Nolan was named the best director, while Ludwig Göransson picked up the trophy for the best original score.

HBO’s hit series Succession got a proper send-off at the Golden Globes, where its final season won a total of four trophies. It was named the best drama series, while its stars Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen collected acting accolades. It was also a big night for The Bear and Beef, and we’ve seen them walk away with three awards in their respective TV fields.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on January 7, with Jo Koy taking over hosting duties for the first time.

2024 Golden Globes: “Barbie” & “Succession” Lead the Way with Nine Nods Each

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association finally unveiled the Golden Globe nominations – and they’re truly an embarrassment of riches. Barbie led the way in the movie field with nine nominations, while Succession made history as the most-nominated TV show in a single year.

2023 has definitely been the year of Barbie, and it’s not a shocker to see Greta Gerwig’s film lead the Golden Globe nominations. It received a total of nine nods, including the best comedy or musical, alongside Air, American Fiction, The Holdovers, May December, and Poor Things.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer led the way in the drama categories with eight nods, starting with the best drama film. Anatomy of a Fall, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Past Lives, and The Zone of Interest also received nominations for this prestigious award.

The final season of Succession impressed the Golden Globes voters so much that it made history as the most-nominated series in a single year. It scored a total of nine nods, starting with the best drama series, and multiple acting nods for its ensemble cast, including Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Matthew Macfadyen, Alan Ruck, Alexander Skarsgård, and J. Smith-Cameron.

The Golden Globe Awards winners will be announced on January 7, 2024, when the ceremony is set to take place at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.

2023 Emmy Nominations: HBO Leads the Way With “Succession”, “The Last of Us” & “The White Lotus”

2023 has been another landmark year for HBO, and the Emmy nominations reflect the network’s enormous success. The list of nominees for TV’s biggest night is in, and HBO dramas Succession, The Last of Us, and The White Lotus are leading the way with over 20 nods each.

Succession will come into the Emmy ceremony with impressive 27 nominations, including 14 in the main field. The final season of the acclaimed drama owes most of its nominations to its remarkable ensemble cast, and Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Alan Ruck, Alexander Skarsgård, and J. Smith-Cameron have all been recognized in their respective fields.

As for the rest of the best drama contenders, The Last of Us and The White Lotus will also be vying for the highly coveted award, along with Disney’s Andor, AMC’s Better Call Saul, Netflix’s The Crown, HBO’s House of the Dragon, and Showtime’s Yellowjackets.

Shifting to the comedy categories, it’s another big year for Ted Lasso, with an impressive tally of 21 nominations, including eight nods in the main categories. The race for the outstanding limited or anthology series will be pretty cramped, and Netflix’s Beef is leading the way with 13 nominations, including nine in the primary categories.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards are slated to take place on September 18, but the WGA strike looms as a potential disruptor and it’s possible that the ceremony date would shift.

HBO Dominates at the 2022 Primetime Emmys With Wins for “The White Lotus” & “Succession”

Another Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony is behind us, and HBO bosses were enjoying it more than anyone else. This network cemented its domination over the television landscape on Monday night with its hit shows The White Lotus and Succession taking home top prizes.

The White Lotus was one of the favorites for the outstanding limited series award, and it lived up to the hype. It collected four more trophies by the end of the night—outstanding supporting actor and actress (Murray Bartlett and Jennifer Coolidge) and outstanding writing and directing for a limited series (Mike White).

It was also a big night for Succession, as this political satire picked up its second Emmy for outstanding drama series, but it wasn’t the last we’ve seen of HBO. Zendaya collected her second Emmy for Euphoria, while Jean Smart was named outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for Hacks.

As for other networks and streamers, Ted Lasso brought four wins to Apple TV+. It won the trophy for outstanding comedy series, repeating its success from last year, in addition to three more awards—lead actor (Jason Sudeikis), supporting actor (Brett Goldstein), and outstanding directing for a comedy series (MJ Delane).

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards took place on September 12 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with Kenan Thompson hosting the ceremony.

2022 Emmy Awards: “Succession” Tops Nominations, Followed by “Ted Lasso” & “The White Lotus”

After a lot of anticipation, the list of nominations for the Emmy Awards is finally in, and it’s as epic as it gets! HBO satirical drama Succession is leading the way with 25 nominations, closely followed by Ted Lasso and The White Lotus with a total of 20 nods each.

Succession scored 12 nominations for Primetime Emmy Awards and an additional 13 for Creative Arts Emmy Awards. It will try to repeat its success in 2020 and with the award for outstanding drama, but it will have to beat Better Call Saul, Euphoria, Ozark, Severance, Stranger Things, Squid Game, and Yellowjackets to make it happen.

As for Ted Lasso, the winner of the outstanding comedy series at the last year’s ceremony will try to repeat its success. Hacks and Only Murders in the Building will be its strongest competitors since they’re coming into the ceremony with a total of 17 nominations each.

The race for the winner of outstanding limited series is less crowded, and it will most likely come down to two shows. The White Lotus is leading the way with a total of 11 nods for Primetime Emmys, but Hulu’s mini-series Dopesick is right behind with nine.

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 12 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and the Television Academy is yet to find a host.

SAG Awards: “CODA”, “Succession” and “Ted Lasso” Crowned as Top Winners

Another SAG Awards came and went and brought both expected and surprising wins our way. CODA, Succession, and Ted Lasso were the biggest winners of the night, winning best ensemble awards in their respective categories.

CODA pulled the night’s biggest upset in the ceremony’s main category—the outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. It managed to beat Belfast, Don’t Look Up, The House of Gucci, and King Richard to walk away with this prestigious award.

Its star Troy Kotsur was crowned as the best supporting actor, and he was in pretty good company. Will Smith was named best actor for his performance in King Richard, Jessica Chastain picked up the trophy for best actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, while Ariana DeBose was rewarded for her supporting turn in West Side Story.

The TV categories were much easier to call, with front-runners Succession and Ted Lasso taking awards for the best acting ensemble in their respective categories. Netflix smash hit Squid Game also had a big night, winning three awards—best actor and actress in a drama (Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-Yeon), and best stunt ensemble.

The 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards were presented at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on February 27th.

“The Power of the Dog” and “West Side Story” Win Big at 2022 Golden Globes

There wasn’t a lot of buzz surrounding this year’s pared-down Golden Globes ceremony, but the HFTA still managed to award the buzziest movies and TV shows of the year. The Power of the Dog and West Side Story walked away with three awards, while Succession topped the TV field.

The Power of the Dog came into the night as one of the front-runners and managed to win three awards out of seven nominations. In addition to best motion picture — drama, it also won accolades for best director (Jane Campion) and best-supporting actor (Kodi Smit-McPhee).

Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story was equally successful in the comedy or musical field. It won the award for the best motion picture – musical or comedy, while its breakout stars Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose both walked away with acting awards.

It was also a big night for Succession, which topped the list of nominations with five nods and eventually won three awards – best drama series, best actor in a drama series (Jeremy Strong), and best-supporting actress in a series (Sarah Snook).

The Golden Globes took place at the Beverly Hilton on January 9th, without a live broadcast or any nominees in attendance.

2022 Golden Globes: “Belfast” and “The Power of the Dog” Among Top Contenders

There’s always a lot of anticipation surrounding the announcement of Golden Globe nominees, and that was certainly the case this year. Snoop Dog declared the contenders for this award ceremony, with Belfast and The Power of the Dog leading the way.

Both movies received a total of seven nods, including the best motion picture – drama. They’ll have to beat CODA, King Richard, and Dune to walk away with this trophy. Belfast and The Power of the Dog will also be competing against each other in several other categories, including best director and best screenplay.

The comedy/musical field is also pretty crowded this year, and it’s led by Don’t Look Up and West Side Story with five nominations each. They’ll be competing against Cyrano, Licorice Pizza, and Tick Tick Boom for the best motion picture – comedy or musical.

The television side also features a long list of worthy contenders that go a long way with the Golden Globes. Succession topped the list of nominees with five nominations, closely followed by The Morning Show with four. Ted Lasso is leading the comedy field with four nods, but it will have to defeat The Great, Hacks, and Only Murders in the Building with three nominations each.

HFPA is yet to share details about the format of the upcoming ceremony, which will be held on January 9th, 2022.
