2024 will be behind us in just a few hours, so it’s a better time than ever to celebrate some of the amazing shows it has given us. From Baby Reindeer to Shōgun, here are five new shows that hit our screens in the past twelve months and managed to create a lot of buzz.

Agatha All Along (Disney+)

The long-awaited WandaVision spin-off Agatha All Along reunited us with the infamous witch Agatha Harkness and saw her joining forces with a coven of witches while trying to leave Westview behind.

Nobody Wants This (Netflix)

Fans of rom-coms were raving about the Netflix series Nobody Wants This this fall. It centers on an agnostic dating podcaster, who embarks on an unexpected journey after meeting an unconventional rabbi at a party.

Fallout (Amazon Prime Video)

The long-awaited video game adaptation Fallout hit our screens this year and saw a young woman Lucy abandoning the fallout bunker she grew up in and venturing out into the wasteland of post-apocalyptic Los Angeles.

Baby Reindeer (Netflix)

Baby Reindeer became a true viral sensation after premiering on Netflix this spring. It’s based on Richard Gadd’s one-man show and draws inspiration from his real-life experience with a female stalker who turned his life upside down.

Shōgun (FX/Hulu)

Shōgun takes us to a time of war and treachery in feudal Japan, where two ambitious men from different walks of life must forge their own path. It won 18 trophies at this year’s Emmy Awards, making history as the most-awarded show in a single season.

Shōgun emerged as one of the main contenders at the Emmy Awards with a total of 25 nods, and it lived up to the hype. It made history as the most-awarded series in a single year with 18 trophies, in addition to becoming the first non-English series to win the coveted outstanding drama series award.

Shōgun managed to beat tough competition in The Crown, Fallout, The Gilded Age, The Morning Show, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Slow Horses, and 3 Body Problem to win the award for outstanding drama series. This was one of its four major awards, but it also won 14 more trophies at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for a total of 18, the most wins by any show in a single year.

It was also a historic night for The Bear, which won four major awards for a total of 11, the most by a comedy show in a single year. Despite its domination in the comedy field, the FX culinary dramedy failed to win the trophy for the outstanding comedy series, which went to HBO’s Hacks.

The race in the limited/anthology series field was much easier to call, and Baby Reindeer led the way in most major categories, including outstanding limited or anthology series, plus acting awards for its stars Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning.

The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards were held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 15, with Eugene and Dan Levy making their hosting debut.

The Primetime Emmy Awards are less than two months away, and they’re shaping up to be a historic affair. The list of nominees is finally in, with Shōgun leading the way with epic 25 nods, while The Bear made history in the comedy field with 23 nominations.

The historical drama Shōgun knocked it out of the park with its first season and scored 25 nominations for FX. It’s the second non-English language series in the running for the outstanding drama series, but The Crown, Fallout, The Gilded Age, The Morning Show, Mr & Mrs Smith, Slow Horses, and 3 Body Problem also managed to make the cut.

The Bear is the top contender on the comedy side, and it made history as the most-nominated comedy series in a single year with 23 nominations. It will try to take its second Emmy for the outstanding comedy series home, but the competition also includes Abbott Elementary, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, Palm Royale, Reservation Dogs, and What We Do in Shadow.

As for the limited/anthology series field, True Detective: Night Country emerged as the main contender with 19 nominations. Baby Reindeer, Lessons in Chemistry, Ripley, and Fargo are also in the running for the outstanding limited or anthology series.
