Oppenheimer and The Bear won countless accolades this award season, and they’re showing no signs of stopping! The SAG Awards returned to Los Angeles this Saturday night, and Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb epic and FX’s acclaimed dramedy emerged as the top winners with three trophies each.

Oppenheimer was the front runner for the outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture, and it lived up to the high expectations to take this trophy home. Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. also had a reason to celebrate after collecting individual awards for their respective performances.

As for The Bear, the hit FX dramedy was crowned with a trophy for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series, while its stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri collected awards for the best actor and actress in a comedy series.

Winners were a little bit more difficult to predict on the drama side, but Succession still managed to walk away with the coveted award for the outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series. Its stars, however, didn’t collect any individual awards after being beaten by Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) and Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown).

The 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards took place on February 24 at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, with Netflix live-streaming the ceremony.

Another SAG Awards came and went and brought both expected and surprising wins our way. CODA, Succession, and Ted Lasso were the biggest winners of the night, winning best ensemble awards in their respective categories.

CODA pulled the night’s biggest upset in the ceremony’s main category—the outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. It managed to beat Belfast, Don’t Look Up, The House of Gucci, and King Richard to walk away with this prestigious award.

Its star Troy Kotsur was crowned as the best supporting actor, and he was in pretty good company. Will Smith was named best actor for his performance in King Richard, Jessica Chastain picked up the trophy for best actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, while Ariana DeBose was rewarded for her supporting turn in West Side Story.

The TV categories were much easier to call, with front-runners Succession and Ted Lasso taking awards for the best acting ensemble in their respective categories. Netflix smash hit Squid Game also had a big night, winning three awards—best actor and actress in a drama (Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-Yeon), and best stunt ensemble.

Another SAG Awards ceremony is behind us, and it brought many surprising moments our way. Some of the wins were easy to predict, but several trophies went into the hands of unexpected nominees, and these actors and projects came out as the biggest winners of the night.

POC Actors

This year’s SAG Awards were quite historic because the four acting awards in the movie categories went to POC for the first time ever. The list of winners included Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom leads Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis, Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah), and Youn Yuh-jung (Minari).

Michael Keaton & Chicago 7

Michael Keaton wasn’t in the running for any individual awards this season, but he still managed to make history at the SAG Awards. After picking up the trophy for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture with his The Trial of the Chicago 7 co-stars, he became the first actor to win in this category three times. This win improved Chicago 7’s Oscar chances, but it will still have a tough competition in Minari and Nomadland.

The Crown

The Crown and Schitt’s Creek dominated the television field at this year’s SAG Awards, but it’s safe to say that the triumph of the first show is a much bigger deal. Unlike Schitt’s Creek, Netflix’s royal drama will be in the running at the upcoming Emmys and its SAG victories solidify its status as a major front-runner.

The 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards were presented at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on February 27th.
