]]>In Otto Bathurt’s rendition of the mythic tale, Taron Egerton stars as the titular hero, who robs from the rich and gives to the poor. From the trailers, we were expecting a fresh, action-packed take on the story, but there seems to be unanimous agreement among critics that the movie did not deliver.
The Hollywood Reporter said: “Mendelsohn’s villain is boringly one-note, Eve Hewson’s Marion uses an incongruous Yank accent and always looks as though she’s just stepped out of the makeup trailer, F. Murray Abraham swans around in fancy cardinal’s vestments looking sinister and Foxx seems p****d off that he’s not somewhere, perhaps anywhere, else. As for Egerton, he’s a boy doing a man’s job.”
The New York Times agreed, saying: “The plot is twisty in a perfunctory way, the action predictably explosive, the sought-after exhilaration nonexistent.”
The Guardian were equally harsh, rating the movie a dismal 2/5. They concluded: “This bloated, featureless, CGI-heavy movie is not so much stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, as stealing from Guy Ritchie, Batman, Two-Face and a few others – and not giving back all that much to the audience.”
If you were on the fence about whether or not to watch Robin Hood in cinemas, it might be best to wait for the DVD, or better still, its debut on Netflix… or not bother at all.

]]>Otto Bathurst’s take on the classic British tale will star Taron Egerton as the eponymous hero. Jamie Foxx will appear as Little John, Tim Minchin as Friar Tuck, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian and Jamie Dornan will be Will Scarlet.
The official synopsis for the movie is as follows:
“A war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown in a thrilling action-adventure packed with gritty battlefield exploits, mind-blowing fight choreography, and a timeless romance.”
In the trailer, we get a taster for just how “thrilling” and “action-adventure packed” the movie is going to be. The one-and-a-half-minute teaser contains non-stop action scenes and it looks as if Bathurst’s take is going to be the most exciting version of Robin Hood yet.
