]]>Toby Emmerich, the chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, said he’s excited to be able to continue Diana Prince’s story with the “real-life Wonder Women” Gadot and Jenkins after the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984.
This film opened in theaters on December 25th and grossed $85 million worldwide during its opening weekend. This is a pretty impressive number for 2020, especially considering you don’t even have to go to theaters to watch this superhero flick.
Wonder Woman 1984 also simultaneously premiered on HBO Max, where it found enormous success. WarnerMedia reported that “nearly half of the platform’s retail subscribers viewing the film on the day of its arrival, along with millions of wholesale subscribers who have access to HBO Max via a cable, wireless, or other partner services.”

The Israeli actress announced her casting on Twitter writing, “As you might have heard I teamed up with @PattyJenks and @LKalogridis to bring the story of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, to the big screen in a way she’s never been seen before. To tell her story for the first time through women’s eyes, both behind and in front of the camera.”
Paramount Pictures has won the film following a bidding war reportedly between Universal, Warner Bros, Netflix, and Apple.
The Egyptian queen’s tale was previously portrayed on the big screen by the iconic Elizabeth Taylor in the 1963 Joseph Mankiewicz-directed film of the same name.
