]]>The streamer has unveiled the first trailer for its new four-part limited series, Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam CJ Walker. The series stars Octavia Spencer as the America’s first black female self-made millionaire.
Here’s the official synopsis: “Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer stars as Madam CJ Walker, the trailblazing African American haircare entrepreneur who was America’s first female self-made millionaire. Inspired by the book, On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam CJ Walker, written by Walker’s great-great-granddaughter A’Lelia Bundles, the Netflix four-part limited series brings the uplifting story of this cultural icon to the screen for the first time. Against all odds, Walker overcame post-slavery racial and gender biases, personal betrayals, and business rivalries to build a ground-breaking brand that revolutionized black haircare, as she simultaneously fought for social change.”
In addition to Spencer, the limited series stars Tiffany Haddish, Carmen Ejogo, Garrett Morris, Kevin Carroll, and Bill Bellamy.

]]>She founded Orit Entertainment alongside Brian Clisham, and the duo already entered a three-year pod deal with 20th Century Fox TV.
Clisham spent the last 13 years working for talent agency WME, and Spencer said he was instrumental in shaping her career.
“He has always understood my desire to work with a diverse group of talent both in front of and behind the scenes. I trust his taste and his counsel and know he will thrive in this new role. We are always on the same page and most importantly, have a lot of fun!” said Octavia Spencer to Deadline.
The list of the projects set to be produced under the Orit banner includes Apple show Truth Be Told and Netflix series Madam CJ Walker. Spencer is also set to executive produce upcoming horror film Ma, her latest collaboration with The Help director Tate Taylor.
