The special will premiere in November 2023 and consist of three episodes. Davies will stay on board to anchor Doctor Who into the new era in Season 14 led by Gatwa, set to premiere in 2024.

Gatwa’s casting isn’t the only thing that got us excited about the new season of Doctor Who. It will also mark the return of showrunner Russell T Davies, who’s often been credited for the show’s renaissance, and he couldn’t be more excited to welcome Gatwa into the TARDIS.

“The future is here and it’s Ncuti! Sometimes talent walks through the door and it’s so bright and bold and brilliant, I just stand back in awe and thank my lucky stars. Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds,” said Davies in a statement.
