Multiple outlets report that MacFarlane has signed an overall deal with the company and that it is reportedly worth at least $200 million for five years. Under the deal MacFarlane’s production company Fuzzy Door will develop and produce projects for NBCUniversal.

“I am extremely honored to be partnering with Dawn Olmstead and the entire UCP team,” MacFarlane said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “My relationship with Universal pre-dates this new chapter, and if my experience producing television with UCP is anything like the experience I’ve had producing films with the company, it will be an exciting and creatively fulfilling one for me and for Fuzzy Door. I’m especially inspired by all of the opportunities that NBCUniversal Content Studios has to offer with George [Cheeks] and Bonnie [Hammer] at the helm. I will remain indebted to my good friend Dana Walden and the team at 20th for their collaborative partnership over the years, and I look forward to our continued work together on Family Guy, American Dad, and The Orville.”

MacFarlane’s overall deal at 20th Century Fox Television expired in June.

The iconic pigtailed moppet is heading back to television after NBC Universal’s streaming service Peacock has greenlit a Punky Brewster sequel. 

Soleil Moon Frye returns to star as the titular character. 

The sequel series will follow a now all grown Punky as a single mother of three children trying to get her life back on track. She’ll meet a young foster girl named Izzy (Quinn Copeland), who reminds Punky of her younger self. 

Also starring is Freddie Prinze Jr. as Travis Punky’s ex-husband as well as Lauren Donzis, Oliver De Los Santos, and Noah Cottrell.

“I am beyond thrilled and honored to be bringing Punky back!” Frye said in a statement. “I’m grateful to our NBCUniversal Content Studios and Peacock family and to our incredible team of creators, writers, producers, cast, and crew that have put their hearts into this journey every step of the way. It is with great love for the amazing people who were such a pivotal part of creating the Punky magic that I will do my very best to honor their memory as we once again share Punky with the people that love her and a new generation discovering her for the first time. Season 1 will consist of 10 episodes.

NBCU’s newly named streaming platform, Peacock, is bringing back the Bayside gang for a new Saved by the Bell series. 

According to the logline, the revival will see California governor Zack Morris in hot water for closing too many low-income high schools. When he suggests sending the affected students to the highest-performing schools in the state — including Bayside High — the influx of new students “gives the overprivileged Bayside kids a much-needed and hilarious dose of reality.”

According to sources, the service has currently tapped two original stars to reprise their roles in the comedy —Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley. The streamer is also in talks for other original stars to return. 

The series hails from Great News creator Tracey Wigfield. 

Peacock is scheduled to launch in April 2020.
