]]>Matrix 4 has officially added two months to its production schedule signing eight-week extensions to keep the actors on hold until at least July 6.
Filming on Matrix 4 began in February in San Francisco before moving to Europe mid-March. But cameras never started rolling in Germany due to the coronavirus pandemic and the halting of all productions.
The fourthquel is directed by Lana Wachowski, who also co-wrote the screenplay with David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon.
“We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana,” said Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich in a statement announcing the project. “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”
Variety was first to report the news.
