Stellan Skarsgård, the actor who plays Bill in the all-singing-all-dancing Mamma Mia franchise has confirmed that he is 100% up for a third movie.

Mamma Mia hit cinemas back in 2008 and has since been dubbed one of the most popular cinematic musicals of the 21st century. Last summer, the sequel in the form of a prequel hit cinemas and fans delighted in the return of Meryl Streep and a young Donna. But could another sequel be on the cards and would the cast be up for it? Stellan Skarsgård is certainly up for it.

Speaking with Digital Spy, the star revealed he would not hesitate before joining a second sequel to Mamma Mia. He claimed: “I wouldn’t have to read the script. If they call, I’ll come.”

Skarsgård reckons there is scope for a third movie but wonders whether there are enough Abba songs in the group’s catalog for a sequel to work. “I think that the problem is, do they have enough songs; do they have the right songs?” he questioned.

He added: “Can they come up with a story which doesn’t have to be that plausible, but plausible enough? But if they want to do it, I’ll be there.”

There were ten years between the first and second film so we’ll probably get back to you with more details in 2027.

Lily James has revealed how she went about capturing the essence of Donna in the highly anticipated Mamma Mia sequel.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, The Baby Driver star admitted that she “had a soundtrack of Meryl Streep doing every single line she does in the first movie.” To get in the zone, she says she “used to listen to it and walk around like a madman, mimicking her.”

She also opened up about her experience playing the character: “It was so much fun to try and think about what Donna would be like at 20, having so much to draw on from this magnificent woman and character that Meryl Streep created in the first movie.”

“She’s so fearless and brave and can kind of take on life head on. I just love it, and I watched the film over and over and over again. I gave it my all, and I just wanted to capture the essence of what Donna was and is,” she said.

She added: “I just kind of had to try and own it. It was kind of overwhelming at times, but I focused on playing a young Donna rather than a young Meryl Streep, which made it a bit more manageable.”

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is out in cinemas now.
