Netflix just dropped the trailer for Season 5 of Lucifer and it looks like the Detective has not been okay since he’s been away in Hell, but that Lucifer has returned to earth.

Season 5 will consist of two parts with a total of 16 episodes. The first part is set to return on August 21 and there has yet to be a release date for the second half.

Netflix picked up the series from Fox after it was canceled in May 2018 after three seasons. There was a huge social media campaign titled #SaveLucifer that happened for over a month and resulted in the show continuing with Netflix. In June, Lucifer was renewed for a “FINAL final” six season.

“The stakes are higher than ever. Secrets will be revealed, beloved characters will die, and we’ll finally get an answer to the question, ‘Will they or won’t they?’,” reads the official logline from the series.

From the trailer, it appears as though the Detective, Chole Decker (Lauren German) has had a hard time since Lucifer left and we’ll get to meet Lucifer’s twin brother Michael.

It’s official: Lucifer will conclude with 16 episodes.

The streaming giant, which picked up the supernatural crime drama for an additional fifth and final season just last month, has announced that the final season’s episode count has been expanded.

News that six episodes were added was announced Friday morning via the streaming giant’s See What’s Next account.

Lucifer Season 5 just got a HELL of a lot better — and bigger,” it reads. “We’ve added six more hours, for a grand total of 16 episodes!”

The first three installments of the series ran on Fox, before being canceled.

“We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for … letting us finish the story of Lucifer on our terms. Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!” co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson said of the original final-season pickup.

Following fans’ pushback to the decision that the fifth season will indeed by the show’s last, they said, “[W]hile we feel just as sad as many of you do that this marvelous ride is coming to an end, a fight won’t change things right now. But we spoke to our partners at Netflix and Warner Bros, and you should all know TREMENDOUS car and consideration was put into making this decision.”

Netflix just revealed that the highly anticipated season four of their fantasy procedural Lucifer will be released on May 8th. The streaming service giant also dropped a short teaser for the upcoming season, which will be 10-episodes long.

Lucifer stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar AKA the Devil himself, who gets bored of hell and ends up coming to Los Angeles where he starts working for LAPD and running his own night club. The series is based on the DC Comics character of the same name.

Despite positive reactions from critics and being well received by the audience, Lucifer was canceled after three seasons on FOX. The fans of the show started a big social media campaign in order to reverse the decision or to have the show moved onto a different network.  This prompted Netflix to step in and pick up the series for season four.

The teaser for the upcoming season doesn’t reveal much as it just shows Lucifer as he emerges from the water after having a dip in the pool. He takes a glass of alcohol and takes a sip while the camera shows us his “666” torso tattoo. The trailer ends with him smiling followed by “He Is Risen” message.

Check out the teaser as well as the synopsis for the fourth season of Lucifer below.

“Reeling from the aftermath of Chloe seeing his devil face, Lucifer faces a new challenge: Eve, the original sinner herself, is back. Does she want revenge for when he tempted her out of Eden oh so many years ago… or something else entirely?”
