]]>The lineup of 118 feature films was announced Wednesday and this year’s festival will feature a lineup jam-packed lineup with features by female filmmakers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this year’s female-powered screening films such as Julie Taymor’s The Glorias, featuring Alicia Vikander, Julianne Moore and Steinem as her trailblazing feminist self, Lana Wilson’s doc Taylor Swift: Miss Americana, which delves into the pop icon’s transformation from apolitical star, to well a very political icon, and Nicole Newnham and Jim LeBrecht’s doc Crip Camp, about a 1970s summer camp for disabled teens produced via the Obamas’ Higher Ground banner.
We have lots of returning alumni this year, which really says a lot about the community that we create,” said festival director John Cooper, also explaining that with newcomers, “We’re seeing a lot more of how they tell a story, even if it’s an old story, with a lot more creativity.”
The Utah-based festival runs January 23–February 2 in Park City.

]]>Cinephiles rejoice for the majority of the highly anticipated lineup has been revealed and you can finally know who’s in, who’s out and what the fest chiefs think of Netflix.
According to multiple outlets, the official selection includes an impressive 13 female filmmakers out of the 47 films that were announced. Among the mix are expected names such as Pedro Almodóvar (Pain & Glory), Terrence Malick (A Hidden Life) and Ken Loach (Sorry We Missed You). Noticeably absent from the list is Quentin Tarantino’s anticipated Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is still in editing. Fingers crossed that it’ll be completed in time for the festival. so we could be facing a major snub situation but that’s still unknown.
During the Thursday morning press conference, Cannes’ artistic director Thierry Frémaux and Cannes president Pierre Lescure confirmed that the festival will not to allow any Netflix films into competition.
The 2019 Cannes Film Festival runs May 14-25. Its opening film is The Dead Don’t Die (Jim Jarmusch).
