]]>Lorene Scafaria revealed Sunday night on the Golden Globes red carpet that she’s already working on a stage adaptation for her hit crime drama.
The film starred Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Cardi B, Lizzo, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart as a tight-knit clan of strip club employees who scam money from their rich Wall Street clients amid the 2008 financial crisis.
“We’re just starting,” Scafaria told Variety. “I said it to them a few months ago that I thought it would be a good idea, that’s all. Who knows. I’m trying to develop it for the stage!”
Back in December Lopez told Extra, “It really lends itself to a Broadway show, and to a live-performance show. I don’t know that I would do it. I would produce it, for sure. I don’t know. Maybe. You never know with me.”
Hustlers earned more than $157 million in global ticket sales.

Directed and written by Lorene Scafaria, Hustlers “follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.”
Besides Lopez, the movie will also see hip-hop star Cardi B making her acting debut while Lili Reinhart, Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, and Keke Palmer also join the cast. Filming for the film began on March 22, 2019, in New York City.
“It’s incredible, I’ve honestly never worked on such a professional, focused, and quiet set too, a respectful set,” Stiles recently shared her experience from the set. “I think a lot of the work that Constance and Jennifer have to do is really really challenging, not only in the fun hair/makeup/wardrobe that they have, [but also] the transformation that they’re going through. But there’s actually a deeply rooted emotional story behind it, so everybody’s been really respectful. It’s great.”
Hustlers is based on The Cut’s viral article “The Hustlers at Scores” from 2016, which was written by Jessica Pressler. The article tells the story of a “few strippers who stole from (mostly) rich, (usually) disgusting, (in their minds) pathetic men and gave to, well, themselves.”
