Netflix dropped the trailer for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom starring Viola Davis, Glynn Turman, Colman Domingo, Michael Potts, and the late Chadwick Boseman. The film marks Boseman’s posthumous and last performance. 

The film, a part of a major deal with Netflix to turn nine of Wilson’s iconic plays into films, was penned by Ruben Santiago-Hudson and directed by George C. Wolfe.

In Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, tensions and temperatures escalate throughout the course of an afternoon recording session in 1920s Chicago.

During a press event, Davis said, “Chadwick was an artist. That’s who he was. He loved it. He demanded it in every single way. He was incredible.” Director Wolfe added, “Chadwick put his entire being into Levee. Levee demands that herculean scale of the role. He’s a phenomenal character. [Boseman] put every ounce of energy, heart, and passion [into it].”

Shirley is based on the novel of the same name by Susan Scarf Merrell. The film had its world premiered earlier this year at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. It stars Elisabeth Moss and Michael Stuhlbarg, Logan Lerman, and Odessa Young.

The official synopsis reads: “Fred (Lerman) and Rose (Young) move to a small Vermont college town in pursuit of a job for Fred as an assistant professor of literature. The young couple receives an offer for free room and board from professor Stanley Hyman (Stuhlbarg), as long as Rose agrees to spend time cleaning up the home and looking after his wife, acclaimed horror author Shirley Jackson (Moss). At first Fred and Rose detest the rocky household of the eccentric couple, but they eventually establish deep bonds with their counterparts, which will test the limits of their young love.”

Netflix dropped the first look at its hit series. Season two of After Life Season will see local reporter, Tony, played by Gervais, continue to grieve for his late wife while facing a new problem: his local paper The Tambury Gazette is at risk of closure.

Hulu has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming series based on the Sally Rooney novel.

The one minute, 36 seconds clip gives us a sneak peek at Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell (Paul Mescal), two high schoolers who become secret lovers. Their relationship then becomes much more complicated as the years go on and the two head off to college.

“My favorite scenes from the book generally took the form of conversations between the two protagonists—in abandoned houses, in apartment kitchens, in cars, and in bed,” Rooney said of the television adaption to Vanity Fair. “I’m excited to see those dynamics beginning to unfold in a new way on the screen.”

The Willoughbys features the voices of Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, Alessia Cara, Terry Crews, Martin Short, Jane Krakowski, Séan Cullen, and Ricky Gervais and the narrator. 

Here’s the official synopsis: “When the four Willoughby children are abandoned by their selfish parents, they must learn how to adapt their old-fashioned values to the contemporary world in order to create a new and modern family.”

The Willoughbys will debut on Netflix on April 22.

With New Orleans PD and the SWAT team outside ready to storm his home, a social media frenzy begins, as community members and news outlets arrive at the scene. During this growing mayhem, a sympathetic cop named Steven Poincy (Fishburne) plays the role of negotiator, and, over the course of one brutally stressful day, tries to get Rayshawn to calmly surrender in order to avoid an escalation of unnecessary violence.”

The short-format digital platform is set to launch on April 6.

The first look at the forthcoming documentary about the musical group has been unveiled. 

The film about the New York trio of rappers, dubbed “the story of three friends who inspired each other and the world,” is set to debut later this year. It centers around cofounders Mike Diamond and Adam Horovitz and their 40 years of friendship and with cofounder Adam “MCA” Yauch. 

“There are some friends you have lunch with so many times over the years, you know their order,” Horovitz and Diamond said in a statement earlier this year. “Spike is one of those friends. And even when you don’t recognize anything on the menu, he comes up with something good for the whole table. Like when we wondered what to do when our book comes out… then Spike placed his order: You will put on a show for the children.”

Beastie Boys Story will be available to stream on Apple TV+ April 24.

The streamer has unveiled the first trailer for its new four-part limited series, Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam CJ Walker. The series stars Octavia Spencer as the America’s first black female self-made millionaire. 

Here’s the official synopsis: “Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer stars as Madam CJ Walker, the trailblazing African American haircare entrepreneur who was America’s first female self-made millionaire. And we can now finally take the first sneak peek at the new and upcoming fashion design competition Making the Cut. In the new series, Klum and Gun give 12 designers a chance to win a million dollars, a mentorship with Amazon Fashion head Christine Beauchamp, and create an exclusive clothing line on Amazon. 

Making the Cut features a slew of A-lister guest judges including Naomi Campbell, Nicole Richie, Joseph Altuzarra, Carine Roitfeld and Chiara Ferragni who will give their takes on the designers’ work.
