Danny Boyle has confirmed that another film in the 28 Days Later franchise is in the works.

The original feature hit cinemas back in 2003 and saw Cillian Murphy waking up in an empty hospital to find the whole of London abandoned. While he was in a coma for 28 days, the country was left in ruins following a zombie apocalypse.

The feature quickly became a staple part of the zombie genre and the sequel soon followed.

Now, Danny Boyle has confirmed that he will be teaming up with screenwriter Alex Garland for a second sequel. He revealed the news to The Independent.

Back in 2015, Garland began discussing the possibility and told IGN: “We’ve just started talking about it seriously.

“We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility.”

He added: “It’s more likely to be 28 Months than 28 Years. 28 Years gives you one more place to go. 28 Decades is probably taking the piss.”

More details to be shared when they are announced.

Back in May 2018, fans of the James Bond film series got excited when it was confirmed that Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle will direct the next adventure of Agent 007. Several months later, however, Boyle decided to exit the project with “creative differences” being cited as the main reason for the decision.

Now, after the dust settled, the Slumdog Millionaire director decided to clarify these “creative differences” in a recent interview and explain why he really quit James Bond 25.

According to Boyle, he made a script with John Hodge (Trainspotting) and wanted to do that version of the movie, while the studio and James Bond producers had different ideas. Since the 62-year-old director didn’t want to bail out on Hodge, the pair decided to leave the project together.

“I learned quite a lot about myself with Bond. I work in partnership with writers and I am not prepared to break it up,” said Boyle. “We were working very, very well but they didn’t want to go down that route with us. So we decided to part company, and it would be unfair to say what it was because I don’t know what Cary [Fukunaga] is going to do. I got a very nice message from him and I gave him my best wishes. It is just a great shame. What John [Hodge] and I were doing, I thought, was really good. It wasn’t finished, but it could have been really good. You have to believe in your process and part of that is the partnership I have with a writer. It is like someone coming and saying, ‘Hey, we are going to give you a different editor.’ Those fundamental partnerships are vital.”

After Danny Boyle left, Cary Fukunaga (Beasts of No Nation, True Detective) was hired to take over the directorial reigns on James Bond 25. The movie is set for release on April 8, 2020, with Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) joining the project as a villain.

Danny Boyle won’t direct James Bond 25 after all. This caused a major shock to fans, who were thrilled when it was announced that Boyle, a longtime fan of the James Bond franchise, will be the one directing Daniel Craig in his last appearance as agent 007. Unfortunately, that won’t happen now, since Danny Boyle decided to exit the project due to creative differences.

“Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig today announced that due to creative differences Danny Boyle has decided to no longer direct Bond 25,” – it was tweeted on James Bond official Twitter page.

After months of speculations, producers of James Bond confirmed in May that Danny Boyle would serve as a director for James Bond 25. John Hodge, who worked with Boyle on Trainspotting, was set to pen the script for the movie based on the original idea by the 61-year-old director. The film was set to enter production in December 2018, with the release date scheduled for November 2019.

After losing its director, James Bond franchise now faces a lot of uncertainty. Sam Mendes, who successfully directed previous two entries in the franchise, Skyfall and Spectre, decided to focus on other projects. Also, Daniel Craig is also expected to leave the film series after making James Bond 25. This will be his fifth appearance as James Bond.
