]]>Celeste’s (Nicole Kidman) abusive husband (Alexander Skarsgård) met his demise, which has resulted in the characters played by Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz now being known as the infamous “Monterey Five” in the forthcoming season.
Perry’s fatal fall meant that Skarsgård will not be returning to the HBO show for its second season, surely?
Well, not according to his on-screen wife.
At a panel discussion for the season 2 premiere, Kidman appeared to have let out a spoiler, which caused her co-star and fellow executive producer, Witherspoon, to motion she stop speaking.
“[Alexander] was the most incredible acting partner, and then he came back for season 2,” said the Aquaman star. “He has a little bit of a part in the sense of… the basis of… okay, I’ll be quiet. He didn’t abandon us. We’ll put it that way.”
Hmmm…
What we do know for certain is that Meryl Streep has joined the cast as Perry’s mother, who wants answers about her son’s death.
The entire cast gushed about having the multiple-Oscar winner onboard, with James Tupper going so far as saying, “It was like meeting the Queen of England.”
Big Little Lies returns June 9th.

]]>The second season of Big Little Lies, which is coming to HBO in June, will feature the great Meryl Streep.
Streep portrays grieving mother of Perry (Alexander Skarsgård), who died at the end of season one. Perry’s death was caused by Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz), when she saw him getting aggressive with his wife Celeste (Nicole Kidman).
Now, Streep arrives in Monterey to get answers from a group of women she suspects know what went down that night.
“We left off with a lie, so it would have been disingenuous not to mine that lie for all its malignancy,” writer David E. Kelley told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s going to result in more skewed fractures and fissures in the friendships between the women, some of the marriages, and some of the individual psyches.”
The series’ leading ladies, Reese Witherspoon, Kidman, Laura Dern, Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley are all set to reprise their roles when the formerly-limited series returns.
According to the official logline, the forthcoming season “will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode… the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”
Big Little Lies season two premieres June 9th.

Nicole Kidman, star and executive producer added, “There’s no plan for it to end, specifically. This was a long shoot for us, and it was an enormous amount of work… it is [Season 3] its own entity and hopefully it will be taken that way. It was definitely made with an enormous amount of love.”

“It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them,” said Witherspoon in a statement. “I’m beyond excited to be working with talented and acclaimed director Andrea Arnold who will be at the helm. Andrea’s unique storytelling style will be a welcome addition to the filmmaking team.”
“This is inspired by the overwhelming response by audiences around the world … What a journey this has been. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to keep exploring these female characters and make this series with my friends.” added Kidman.
Based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name, Big Little Lies follows three women, Madeline, Celeste, and Jane (played by Witherspoon, Kidman and Shailene Woodley) as they get involved in a murder investigation.
