In order to satisfy everyone’s curiosity, Affleck decided to explain why he quit Batman in a recent interview. Speaking with IGN, the “Argo” star said that he wasn’t happy with the script for the movie and that he wasn’t “excited” by the version of the movie he supposed to do.

“That was part of the problem,” said Affleck. “We worked on the script, I was trying to figure out how to crack it, and I was never happy enough with it where I thought it was worth going out and making it because I just didn’t want to do a version that I wasn’t really excited by, so I still don’t know.”

After playing Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, Ben Affleck was supposed to write, direct, and star in the Batman standalone movie. He ended up handing over the directorial duties to Matt Reeves in 2017, in order to focus more on the role. However, in January 2019, Affleck confirmed that he is leaving the project altogether, as Reeves is looking to cast a younger version of Bruce Wayne and tell the story of the early days of his transition to Batman.

Now, however, it appears that there is no doubt we will get a new Caped Crusader in future movies.

Warner Bros. recently revealed that the upcoming Batman stand-alone movie, directed by Matt Reeves, is scheduled for release on June 25th, 2021.

Shortly after the announcement, Affleck went to social media, and said that he is excited to see Reeves’ vision “come to life.”

Deadline later confirmed that this tweet confirmed that the actor won’t be returning to his role. According to magazine’s sources, the upcoming Batman movie will focus on younger version of the character.

Ben Affleck made his debut as Batman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and then reprised the role in Suicide Squad and Justice League. He was originally attached as a star, writer, and director of a standalone Batman movie, but ended up handing over the writing and directorial duties to Matt Reeves in February 2017.

Affleck isn’t the only actor that is leaving DC Extended Universe, with Henry Cavill hinting late last year that his stint as Superman might be over as well. It remains unclear what will happen with the rest of the Justice League core, which includes Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as Flash, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.
