Conclave came into this year’s BAFTA Awards with a whopping 12 nominations—and it lived up to the hype! The Papal thriller was crowned the biggest winner of the night in London on Sunday after walking away with four trophies, including best film and outstanding British film.

Conclave managed to win four out of the 12 awards it was nominated for, including the ceremony’s most coveted prize. It was announced as the winner of the best film award at the end of the night, defeating Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, and Emilia Pérez.

Conclave also faced tough competition in Bird, Blitz, Gladiator II, Hard Truths, and Kneecap in the race for the outstanding British film, but managed to defeat them all. It collected two additional awards outside the main categories – best adapted screenplay (Peter Straughan) and best editing (Nick Emerson).

The Brutalist was right behind with four awards, most notably the best actor in the leading role for Adrien Brody. Mikey Madison (Anora), Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez) joined him as winners in the acting field, collecting BAFTAs for their respective performances.

The 2025 BAFTA Awards returned to the Royal Festival Hall in London on February 16, with David Tennant serving as a host.

Conclave entered this year’s award season with a quiet whisper, only to grow into one of the major contenders in the Oscar race. The list of nominations for the 2025 BAFTA Awards is finally in, and the Papal thriller managed to score nominations in 12 categories.

Conclave is in the running for the coveted best film award, where the list of contenders also includes Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, and Emilia Pérez. It also received a nod for outstanding British film, along with the likes of Bird, Blitz, Gladiator 2, and Hard Truths.

Director Edward Berger and writer Peter Straughan received nominations for their work on this film, along with its stars Ralph Fiennes and Isabella Rossellini. They’re a part of a pretty busy field of acting nominees, which includes recent Golden Globe winners Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Demi Moore (The Substance), Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez).

In addition to Conclave, the list of the top nominees at this year’s BAFTAs also includes Emilia Pérez with 11 nods, The Brutalist with nine, and Anora, Dune: Part Two, and Wicked with seven each. Oppenheimer came into this year’s award season as an early front-runner, and it lived up to this reputation at the BAFTA Awards on Sunday night. Christopher Nolan’s historic blockbuster came into the night with 13 nominations and eventually walked away with seven trophies.

Oppenheimer was one of the nominees for the coveted best film trophy at this year’s BAFTAs and defeated Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Poor Things to take this award home.

Its director Christopher Nolan finally won his first BAFTA for the best director, while Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. picked up acting accolades for their work on this film. Oppenheimer was also one of the leaders in the technical categories with three awards – best cinematography, editing, and original score.

Poor Things was right behind with five wins, most notably the best actress trophy, collected by its leading lady Emma Stone. Despite its impressive track record, Yorgos Lanthimos’s film struggled in all the other main categories and lost the outstanding British film award to The Zone of Interest.

The 2024 BAFTA Awards celebrated the best cinematic achievements of the past year at the Royal Festival Hall on February 18, with David Tennant hosting the show.

Another BAFTA Awards are behind us, and they took a little bit different approach when compared to other award shows this year. All Quiet on the Western Front was the biggest winner of the night at this ceremony with a total of seven awards, including best picture.

All Quiet may not be a front-runner at other award shows, but it was a clear favorite at the BAFTAs. It came into a night with a total of 14 nods, tying the record for the most-nominated non-English language film in BAFTA’s history, previously held by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

BAFTA voters have shown this anti-war drama a lot of love, awarding it with the best picture trophy. This was only one out of seven awards won by All Quiet, including best director, best adapted screenplay, best cinematography, best original score, best sound, and best film not in the English language.

As far as British movies go, none of them could come even close to The Banshees of Inisherin. Martin McDonagh’s acclaimed tragicomedy was named the outstanding British film and it was one of only two films to walk away with four trophies, along with Elvis.

The 76th British Academy Film Awards were held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on February 19, with Richard E. Grant and Alison Hammond serving as first-time hosts.

The awards season is slowly nearing its end, and winners are even easier to predict after the BAFTAs on Sunday. Dune topped the list of winners with five awards thanks to its domination in craft categories, but The Power of the Dog eventually walked away with the trophy for best film.

Belfast, Dune, Don’t Look Up, and Licorice Pizza were also in the running for the biggest award of the night, but they couldn’t stand their ground to Jane Campion’s western drama. She also collected the award for the best director, becoming only the third woman in history to do so.

Dune was one of the front-runners at this year’s BAFTAs after topping the list of nominees with 11 nods. It managed to win five of the awards it was nominated for in the craft categories, including best cinematography, production design, special visual effects, sound, and original score.

When it comes to the acting categories, Will Smith cemented his status as the front-runner for best actor after winning another award for King Richard. The best actress category didn’t give us a lot of insight into the future Oscar winner, because it went to the underdog Joanna Scanlan for After Love.

The 75th British Academy Film Awards took place on March 13th at the Royal Albert Hall in London, with Rebel Wilson hosting the ceremony.

We’re less than two weeks away from the Academy Awards, and the BAFTAs are the last major ceremony leading up to them. This award show gave us a couple of crucial insights, and here are the most important takeaways from the night full of record-breaking surprises.

“Nomadland” For the Win

One thing that didn’t surprise us at this year’s BAFTAs was the absolute domination of Nomadland. This film cemented its status as the Oscars frontrunner after winning a total of four awards, including best film.

Chloé Zhao Makes History

The Nomadland director Chloé Zhao made history as the first woman of color to win the best director award at the BAFTAs, and we expect she’ll repeat her success at the Oscars.

Best Actress Race

The best actress category brings more uncertainty than ever this year. The BAFTAs provided zero clarity as the award went to Frances McDormand, who didn’t triumph at any other major award shows.

Hopkins Breaks Records

Chadwick Boseman is still the top contender at the Oscars, but Anthony Hopkins managed to pull a major upset at the BAFTAs and became the oldest person to win the award for the best leading actor with The Father.
