The post 2024 BAFTA TV Awards: “The Crown” & “Black Mirror” Among Front-Runners appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>The final season of The Crown is coming into this year’s BAFTA TV Awards with eight nominations. Despite topping the list of nominees, this series shockingly didn’t make it to the best drama field, losing its spot to The Gold, Happy Valley, Slow Horses, and Top Boy.
That didn’t stop The Crown from dominating the acting categories with four nods for its stars Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville, and Salim Daw. The royal drama is also in the running for four additional craft awards, including best costumes and special effects.
As for Black Mirror, its episode “Demon 79” impressed the BAFTA TV voters and scored a total of seven nods. It’s one of the contenders for the best limited drama series, while its star Anjana Vasan scored a nod for the best leading actress.
The 2024 British Academy Television Awards are coming back to the Royal Festival Hall in London on May 12. BBC One will broadcast the ceremony, and they’re yet to announce this year’s host.

]]>The post “Oppenheimer” Walks Away With Seven Trophies at the 2024 BAFTA appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>Oppenheimer was one of the nominees for the coveted best film trophy at this year’s BAFTAs and defeated Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Poor Things to take this award home.
Its director Christopher Nolan finally won his first BAFTA for the best director, while Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. picked up acting accolades for their work on this film. Oppenheimer was also one of the leaders in the technical categories with three awards – best cinematography, editing, and original score.
Poor Things was right behind with five wins, most notably the best actress trophy, collected by its leading lady Emma Stone. Despite its impressive track record, Yorgos Lanthimos’s film struggled in all the other main categories and lost the outstanding British film award to The Zone of Interest.
The 2024 BAFTA Awards celebrated the best cinematic achievements of the past year at the Royal Festival Hall on February 18, with David Tennant hosting the show.

]]>All Quiet may not be a front-runner at other award shows, but it was a clear favorite at the BAFTAs. It came into a night with a total of 14 nods, tying the record for the most-nominated non-English language film in BAFTA’s history, previously held by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
BAFTA voters have shown this anti-war drama a lot of love, awarding it with the best picture trophy. This was only one out of seven awards won by All Quiet, including best director, best adapted screenplay, best cinematography, best original score, best sound, and best film not in the English language.
As far as British movies go, none of them could come even close to The Banshees of Inisherin. Martin McDonagh’s acclaimed tragicomedy was named the outstanding British film and it was one of only two films to walk away with four trophies, along with Elvis.
The 76th British Academy Film Awards were held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on February 19, with Richard E. Grant and Alison Hammond serving as first-time hosts.

]]>Belfast, Dune, Don’t Look Up, and Licorice Pizza were also in the running for the biggest award of the night, but they couldn’t stand their ground to Jane Campion’s western drama. She also collected the award for the best director, becoming only the third woman in history to do so.
Dune was one of the front-runners at this year’s BAFTAs after topping the list of nominees with 11 nods. It managed to win five of the awards it was nominated for in the craft categories, including best cinematography, production design, special visual effects, sound, and original score.
When it comes to the acting categories, Will Smith cemented his status as the front-runner for best actor after winning another award for King Richard. The best actress category didn’t give us a lot of insight into the future Oscar winner, because it went to the underdog Joanna Scanlan for After Love.
The 75th British Academy Film Awards took place on March 13th at the Royal Albert Hall in London, with Rebel Wilson hosting the ceremony.

]]>One thing that didn’t surprise us at this year’s BAFTAs was the absolute domination of Nomadland. This film cemented its status as the Oscars frontrunner after winning a total of four awards, including best film.
The Nomadland director Chloé Zhao made history as the first woman of color to win the best director award at the BAFTAs, and we expect she’ll repeat her success at the Oscars.
The best actress category brings more uncertainty than ever this year. The BAFTAs provided zero clarity as the award went to Frances McDormand, who didn’t triumph at any other major award shows.
Chadwick Boseman is still the top contender at the Oscars, but Anthony Hopkins managed to pull a major upset at the BAFTAs and became the oldest person to win the award for the best leading actor with The Father.
