]]> A Minecraft Movie was always going to be a massive hit, but its first week in theaters managed to exceed everyone’s expectations. The adaptation of the beloved video game grossed $301 million worldwide during its opening weekend and set several major domestic records.

Based on Mojang Studios’ best-selling video game in history, A Minecraft Movie centers on four misfits who find themselves transported to a cubic wonderland after getting pulled through a mysterious portal. They must navigate this bizarre world that thrives on imagination by each other’s side and try to find their way back home.

Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen lead the film’s star-studded cast, which also includes Rachel House, Jemaine Clement, Jared Hess, and Matt Berry.

A Minecraft Movie managed to earn $301 million during its opening weekend, including $157 million in North America alone. It was initially projected to gross $65–70 million, but it managed to exceed everyone’s expectations after making $58 million on its first day.

A Minecraft Movie currently holds the record for the largest domestic opening of 2025, surpassing Captain America: Brave New World with $88 million. It also scored the highest-grossing domestic opening weekend for a movie based on a video game, breaking the record held by The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
