After a five-month-long battle, the WGA finally managed to reach a tentative agreement with the studios and end the writers’ strike. Even after the strike is over, it will take a while for our favorite shows to come back, and here’s when we can expect them to return.

Talk Shows

Both daytime and late-night talk shows operate under the same rules, and they’ll be able to return after WGA ratifies a new contract with the studios. Guild members can only start working on new scripts after this point, making it possible for talk shows to return by the first week of October, but with a limited guest roaster due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Sketch Comedy Shows

Unless the SAG-AFTRA strike comes to a close pretty soon, sketch comedy shows such as Saturday Night Live will have to rely on non-acting talent for hosting duties. Its cast members can legally return to work, but some of them might be reluctant to do so after being active on the picket lines.

Scripted TV Shows

Scripted television shows, as well as movies, still have a long road ahead of them even after the WGA strike is over. The SAG-AFTRA strike is still raging on, and actors won’t be able to participate in any productions until it’s over, unless there’s an interim agreement in place.
