]]>Multiple outlets confirm that the next installment has cast three major roles. Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, and Hal Cumpston will star in the series.
The third zombie drama “will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it,” per a network description. “Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”
According to Variety, which was first to report the news, Mansour will play “a good-natured rule-breaker who lives for today. She is likable and funny on the outside but sad on the inside.” Cantu’s character is said to be “small for his age in addition to being friendly and an old soul. He also has a black belt in karate.” Finally, Cumpston’s character is said to be “big for his age. He is a shy loner that scares some kids, but he hates the fact that he scares people.”
Production on the series’ freshman season is set to begin this summer for a 2020 debut.

]]>The popular AMC show has been going strong for ten whole seasons. In addition to the main show, there have been five seasons of the spin-off show Fear the Walking Dead. This had lead Marquand to assume that the show will be sticking around for a while.
“We already have Fear the Walking Dead, but there’s already talk of a second spin-off which would be amazing,” Marquand told Heart FM. “I don’t know how it’s going to look. There’s rumors right now, so I don’t know if it’s actually going to happen. But I would love that.
“It’s like Star Trek. It will go on for like 30 years, hopefully. That would be great. The fans like it. It’s a universally loved show because it deals with themes that everyone can relate to.”

]]>Although there aren’t many details about the project so far, AMC did reveal that the spinoff will premiere in 2020 with a 10-episode run. Matt Negrete, longtime writer for the original, will serve as a showrunner on the series while Walking Dead boss Scott M. Gimple will co-create and produce.
“I’m beyond excited to be a part of this new show set in The Walking Dead universe,” said Negrete in a statement. “Writing and producing for the original series has been the job of a lifetime and I’m honored to be working with Scott and all the fine Dead folks at AMC in this new capacity. I can’t wait for the fans of the franchise to see what we’ve been cooking up!”
The Walking Dead was once one of the most popular programs on television, averaging 14.38 million viewers in season five. Since then, however, the series saw a big decline in numbers and managed to attract only five million during the last season.
Fear the Walking Dead, the first spinoff that premiered in 2015, is also doing quite poorly with the finale of season four being watched by only two million people. Still, it looks like AMC believes that the zombie-loving audience will appreciate another expansion of the Walking Dead world.
“Showing audiences an unseen pocket of The Walking Dead universe steeped in a new mythology is a very cool way to celebrate a Decade of the Dead on TV and over 15 years of [creator] Robert Kirkman’s brilliant comic.” – added Gimple. “Matt Negrete is one of the best writer-producers in TWD’s long history, I’m thrilled to be working beside him to tell stories unlike we’ve seen before, taking our first step into an even larger world.”
