]]>Jenkins, the Oscar-winning director of Moonlight, is joining the series as an executive producer and López will be the one pulling the strings. The Mexican director, whose credits include Tigers Are Not Afraid and Secondary Effects, will serve as writer, director, and executive producer if HBO gives the series the green light after the pilot.
Nic Pizzolatto, who helmed the first three seasons of the series, is not expected to come back on board. HBO has been looking for a new creative team to bring the series back after his departure, and the company’s Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys said there are things they’re “feeling good about” in regards to True Detective last month.
True Detective premiered on HBO in 2014 and ran for three seasons, with each one focusing on a different storyline and set of characters. The series received numerous accolades and nominations during its run, including one Emmy win and four Golden Globe nominations.
