Yep that’s right, the 64-year-old prolific actor, who is perhaps best known for his role on Candyman and its sequels, successfully negotiated a bonus for bee stings.

“I negotiated a bonus of $1,000 for every sting during the bee scene,” Todd said. “And I got stung 23 times. Everything that’s worth making has to involve some sort of pain. Once I realized it was an important part of who Candyman was, I embraced it. It was like putting on a beautiful coat.”

That means that on top of what he was already getting paid in the 1992 horror classic, Todd received an extra $23,000 for getting stung on set. 

The forthcoming reimagining of the movie, which was described as a “spiritual sequel,” will be directed by Little Woods’ helmer Nia DaCosta. DaCosta will direct from a screenplay by Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld.

“Let’s see what Jordan Peele produces with his sequel,” Todd said of the movie. “They’re planning to shoot entirely in Chicago, where Cabrini-Green has been torn down and gentrified — the new film will explore all that.”
