The mob boss Tony Soprano is back—at least in the prequel to The Sopranos, The Many Saints of Newark.

The Many Saints of Newark is in the 1960s during the Newark riots and focuses on Tony’s early years and his relationship with Dickie Moltisanti, the father of Michael Imperioli’s Christopher Moltisanti and Tony’s father, Johnny Boy, who was grooming his son for organized crime. 

In the trailer, we see the teenage Tony, played by Michael Gandolfini, who’s the son of the late Sopranos star James Gandolfini, becoming a man while rival gangsters rise and challenge the powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over Newark. We also see Tony’s fiery temper as he beats up a friend.

Alan Taylor directed the film and it was produced and co-written by series creator David Chase.

Also joining the cast are Billy Magnussen as Paulie Walnuts, Vera Farmiga as Livia Soprano, Corey Stoll as Junior Soprano, John Magaro as Silvio Dante, Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Michela De Rossi, John Magaro, and Ray Liotta.

The Sopranos aired on HBO from 1999 to 2007 and won 21 Primetime Emmys, five Golden Globes, and Peabody Awards.

The film will be released on October 1, 2021.Check out the trailer below.
