The 1977 horror movie was remade last year by Luca Guadagnino. There was a lot of buzz surrounding the film after it was announced that Radiohead’s Thom Yorke would be composing the film’s original score.

While many critics praised the remake, which saw the likes of Tilda Swinton and Chloe Grace-Moretz bring new life to Argento’s concept, the director himself was wildly unimpressed with the adaptation.

In fact, he slammed the movie to Un Giorno de Pecorca, saying: “It did not excite me, it betrayed the spirit of the original film: there is no fear, there is no music. The film has not satisfied me so much.”

The remake fared well on IMDB, receiving a respectable 7.2/10. It did less well on Rotten Tomatoes, however, where it is currently rated at 64%.

Does Argento have a right to say that the remake betrays “the original spirit of the film” or is each director in his own right to interpret and portray the concept as he or she likes?
