]]>Believe it or not, but Spirited Away has never been released in the Asian country.
Hayao Miyazaki’s classic film about young Chihiro, who must go on a dangerous journey to save her parents who have been transformed into pigs, was released in its native country of Japan 18 years ago.
Still regarded as Japan’s most successful film of all time, the movie grossed $331 million at the global box office and also received the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Despite all this, Spirited Away has never before been screened in China — until now.
The movie will be following in the cinematic footsteps of Miyazaki’s other film, My Neightbour Totoro, which was shown in China for the very first time last December after a 30 year delay.
Spirited Away will be coming to Chinese theatres on June 21st.
