While most of the recent Star Wars movies went on to become huge box-office hits, the same thing didn’t happen with Solo: A Star Wars Story. This spinoff movie, based on the character of Han Solo from the original trilogy, ended up not only becoming a flop in financial terms but also lukewarm reception. Still, there are fans who are hoping to see a sequel, mostly due to the original’s end that promised more exciting action. Unfortunately, it seems like these hopes are not realistic to say at least.

With Solo: A Star Wars Story getting a digital release recently, one of the movie’s writers Jon Kasdan decided to share a handful of interesting facts on his Twitter profile. The last entry was the answer to all those questions about the sequel.

“To be honest, I think the challenge has more to do with the foreign box office than the U.S.” – Kasdan wrote. “Personally, I think there are great Star Wars movies to be made that don’t need to cost quite so much. Hopefully, that will be the trend in years to come, and maybe, just maybe, that trend will allow us, one way or another, to tell more stories with Alden [Ehrenreich], Joonas [Suotamo], Emilia [Clarke], and Donald [Glover]. With those actors and [Ron Howard], I would jump at the opportunity. Given the way Hollywood, and the culture at large, seem to run from anything labeled a disappointment, the odds seem like they’re against it happening anytime soon. But, I suppose, Han wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Co-directed by Ron Howard, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Solo: A Star Wars Story was released in the summer of 2018 as the second entry in the Star Wars anthology film series. It is one of the most expensive movies ever made, with an estimated production budget of $275 million. The movie ended up earning $393 million worldwide, which accumulated to $80 million in losses. The critics praised the casting and visuals but criticized predictable storyline and lack of creativity.
