]]>What makes this year’s annual list unique in comparison to the ones that came before it is an emphasis on diverse stories and filmmakers. Some of the films that made the cut are female-directed Losing Ground and The Hurt Locker, and POC-centered stories The Joy Luck Club, Lilies of the Field, and Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song.
Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden acknowledged that this year’s list shines a spotlight on diversity and explained why it’s so significant. “With the inclusion of diverse filmmakers, we are not trying to set records but rather to set the record straight by spotlighting the astonishing contributions women and people of color have made to American cinema, despite facing often-overwhelming hurdles,” she said in a statement.
The National Film Registry was introduced in 1988, and a total of 800 films have been included so far, ranging from Hollywood classics to short and experimental films.

]]>Universal Pictures have reached out to Meledandri to revive our favorite ogre and his swamp friends. It’s likely that many of you will be protective over the Dreamworks classic, but Meledrandri has reassured fans that he intends to get the original actors on board for the vocals.
“When you look back on those vocal performances, they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,” he explained to Variety. “The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.”
He also assured fans that the new movies will be a lot of fun and will tell new stories.
“There’s a tremendous amount of fun to be had in that world, but it’s a high bar to find a story that’s truly [the] world,” said Meledandri. “You want to find something in the narrative that really feels like a departure.”

]]>Celine, A Life Less Ordinary
We all know Diaz from Charlie’s Angels, but this is another great movie where Diaz plays a badass bitch with some serious attitude. Diaz co-leads with Ewan Mcgregor in a wacky love story that begins with a ‘kidnapping’ and shapes up to be more than either of them were expecting.
Christina, The Sweetest Thing
Diaz has starred in several chick flicks but I think this has got to be our favorite. It’s raunchy and exaggerated, but also gets brutally honest. We want Christina as our best girl friend.
Jenny, Gangs of New York
Diaz was by no means the best thing about this movie, because quite frankly, it is flawless. Some people are skeptical about her casting in the film, but we think she was great.
Mary, There’s Something About Mary
A romantic comedy starring Diaz and Ben Stiller. She was perfect for role because let’s face it, there really is something about Diaz.
Princess Fiona, Shrek
Princess Fiona is one of the greatest princesses. First appearances suggest she is your typical, generic, beautiful Disney type princesses but even before we watch her give Robin Hood and his merry men a serious ass-kicking, it is obvious she is so much more than this. She’s a princess that can hold her own and her love story with Shrek delivers a beautiful message about true, beneath-the-surface love. Diaz nailed it.
