Multiple outlets report that MacFarlane has signed an overall deal with the company and that it is reportedly worth at least $200 million for five years. Under the deal MacFarlane’s production company Fuzzy Door will develop and produce projects for NBCUniversal.

“I am extremely honored to be partnering with Dawn Olmstead and the entire UCP team,” MacFarlane said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “My relationship with Universal pre-dates this new chapter, and if my experience producing television with UCP is anything like the experience I’ve had producing films with the company, it will be an exciting and creatively fulfilling one for me and for Fuzzy Door. I’m especially inspired by all of the opportunities that NBCUniversal Content Studios has to offer with George [Cheeks] and Bonnie [Hammer] at the helm. I will remain indebted to my good friend Dana Walden and the team at 20th for their collaborative partnership over the years, and I look forward to our continued work together on Family Guy, American Dad, and The Orville.”

MacFarlane’s overall deal at 20th Century Fox Television expired in June.

News that the space adventure series will be available exclusively on the streaming service as a Hulu Original after two seasons on Fox was confirmed by creator, writer, and star MacFarlane Saturday afternoon during the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel.

“The Orville has been a labor of love for me…,” said MacFarlane. “But as the show has evolved and become more ambitious production-wise… So we began to discuss how best to support the third season in a way that worked for the show. It’s exactly this kind of willingness to accommodate a show’s creative needs that’s made me want to stick around for so long. I am hugely indebted to Charlie Collier and Fox Entertainment for their generosity and look forward to developing future projects there. And to my new friends at Hulu, I look forward to our new partnership exploring the galaxy together.” 

“Fox Entertainment has been a fantastic home for The Orville and their willingness to support the show’s move to Hulu is incredibly appreciated; they really are great partners to us on so many shows and this is one more example. The Orville is set 400 years in the future that follows The U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship and its crew — both human and alien. Also starring in the series is Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, and Jessica Szohr.

The Orville will return in late 2020.
