Due to the ongoing Coronavirus, the final chapter of the NBC thriller, Blindspot, will premiere Thursday, April 30 and not over the summer as originally planned. 

Season five of Blindspot begins in the aftermath of the explosion that left Jane (Alexander) watching as a drone strike on the safe house with the rest of the team inside. Questions to be answered include who made it out alive and whether the team will ever be able to clear their names in the wake of Madeline’s (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) rise to power. 

Blindspot also stars Rob Brown, Audrey Esparza, Ashley Johnson and Ennis Esmer.

A statement from the creator and writer of Netflix’s acclaimed drama Peter Morgan confirms that the show will end after five seasons, not six like he originally thought. 

In his statement, he also announced who will succeed Claire Foy and Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to confirm Imelda Staunton as Her Majesty The Queen for the fifth and final season, taking The Crown into the 21st Century. Imelda is an astonishing talent and will be a fantastic successor to Claire Foy and Olivia Colman,” Morgan said. “At the outset I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons but now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop. I’m grateful to Netflix and Sony for supporting me in this decision.”

“I have loved watching The Crown from the very start. As an actor, it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan’s scripts. I am genuinely honored to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking The Crown to its conclusion,” Staunton said in a statement.

The Crown’s third and current season covers 1964-1977 with season four to track the 1980s. It has yet to be announced what period the fifth and final season will handle.

The clip of the forthcoming season of the Emmy-winning drama features Claire Danes’ Carrie still reeling from her time in a Russian gulag. We also see Mandy Patinkin’s Saul working as a national security advisor for the newly installed President Warner, calling on Carrie for help. But after someone tells him “you have a traitor in your camp,” he begins thinking that Carrie’s time in captivity might have turned her. 

“I believe you…no one else will,” Saul tells Carrie.

The renewal was announced Thursday evening just over a month after season 3 made its debut.

The streaming giant, which picked up the supernatural crime drama for an additional fifth and final season just last month, has announced that the final season’s episode count has been expanded. 

News that six episodes were added was announced Friday morning via the streaming giant’s See What’s Next account.

“Lucifer Season 5 just got a HELL of a lot better — and bigger,” it reads. “We’ve added six more hours, for a grand total of 16 episodes!”

The first three installments of the series ran on Fox, before being canceled. 

“We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for … letting us finish the story of Lucifer on our terms. Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!” co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson said of the original final-season pickup.

Following fans’ pushback to the decision that the fifth season will indeed by the show’s last, they said, “[W]hile we feel just as sad as many of you do that this marvelous ride is coming to an end, a fight won’t change things right now. But we spoke to our partners at Netflix and Warner Bros, and you should all know TREMENDOUS car and consideration was put into making this decision.”

The series stars Damian Lewis, Paul Giamatti, Maggie Siff, Asia Kate Dillon, Toby Leonard Moore, David Costabile, Condola Rashad, Kelly AuCoin, Jeffrey DeMunn, and Malin Akerman.

Billions is Showtime’s highest-rated and most-watched show. According to the cabler, it is averaging 4.2 million viewers per episode in multi-platform viewing.

The series follows a mysterious tattooed woman (Jaimie Alexander) who is found naked inside a travel bag in Times Square by the FBI, with no memory of her own past or identity. It also stars Sullivan Stapleton, Rob Brown, Audrey Esparza, Ashley Johnson and Ennis Esmer. 

The show was a big breakout hit, but its ratings declined in Season 2 and then again at the start of Season 3. According to Variety, the fourth season averaged 2.8 million total live viewers and a 0.48 in the 18-49 demographic.
