The feature explores Elton John’s lifestyle and how his struggles influenced his music. His songs are weaved in seamlessly and are never inserted carelessly. Each track adds something to the movie and makes us experience the music in a way we never have before.

It’s difficult not to compare Rocketman to Bohemian Rhapsody given that they are both biopics from legendary artists of the LGBTQ+ community. Stylistically, however, they could not be more different. Director Dexter Fletcher inserts energy and color into every scene so that as an audience, we are always fully involved and immersed.

Taron Egerton’s performance has undoubtedly earned him the right to be named one of the best actors of his generation. The energy he brings to the table is wonderful and his voice is phenomenal in every track. He manages to make each song his own while still profoundly imitating a young Elton John. After the mildly disappointing trailer, we were not expecting Egerton to excel in this way.

Jamie Bell and Bryce Dallas Howard also gave fine performances and the storylines of their characters were woven in effectively. Most importantly though, their characters did not distract from Elton John’s story but added to it. It was their role as the people in his life which raised the biopic to something truly special.

Ultimately, if you are a fan of Elton John’s music, you will love Rocketman. It does the musical icon justice and gives a perspective on his life as we have never seen it before. The color and energy make the biopic one of a kind and even if you’re impartial to “Your Song” and “Tiny Dancer”, we still reckon you will love this movie.

Deadline confirms that the Cannes audiences will get to the first look at highly anticipated Elton John biopic.

“We are incredibly honoured and excited to premiere our movie Rocketman at the Cannes film festival on May 16th. This has been a labour of love for all of us and we couldn’t dream of a better launching pad for this very special film,” said producers Rocket Pictures and Marv Films in a statement.

The film is a story about the fantastical human story of John’s breakthrough years. It follows John’s early days as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music up to his eventual musical partnership with Bernie Taupin. 

The film stars Taron Egerton as the musical icon. Also on the call sheet are Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Rocketman is directed by Dexter Fletcher, who took the reins on the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody after director Bryan Singer was fired. That film went on to collect close to $900M at the global box office. 

The Cannes Film Festival debut will be followed by a May 31 domestic release.

The Kingsman actor is starring as Sir Elton John in the upcoming biopic, Rocketman. At Elton’s annual AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party, the pair put on an incredible performance of the popular Elton hit. The singer even surprised the audience when he harmonized with Taron for the song’s iconic chorus.

Before launching into a remarkable performance, Egerton charmingly smiled: “It’s funny how life turns out it isn’t it?”

The upcoming biopic will cover the life of Sir Elton John, including his romantic life. Richard Madden will be playing Elton’s lover, John Reid. Tom Egerton has revealed that he has recently filmed some pretty steamy scenes for the movie.

“I really threw myself into it, I filmed my first sex scene for this film and it’s with quite a well-known man,” Egerton recently told MTV.

“I do feel the movie we shot is absolutely a celebration of everything that Elton John is and part of that is his sexuality,” he elaborated. “I actually think the gay community will be quite surprised by quite how gay it feels. I’ve loved every second of it.”

Rocketman will be released in cinemas May 17.
