Thurber was recently doing interviews for his latest movie, Skyscraper, and was asked to comment the fact that the fans are asking for a sequel to Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story even 14 years after the original was released.

“I really appreciate how much people love that movie. It’s near and dear to my heart, but I feel like I said everything I needed to say in one film,” explained Thurber.

Starring Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story focused on a small gym owner who decides to participate in a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament in order to try to win the money needed to save his gym.

The movie received positive reviews from the critics, and was a minor box-office success, earning $167.7 million compared to $20 million budget.

In the same interviews, Rawson M. Thurber said that he prefers to explore original ideas rather than revisit old works, especially since there are so many sequels being released in the recent times. Thurber then admitted he was close to making a sequel to one of his other comedies, We’re the Millers.

“We talked a little bit about a Millers sequel, we actually had a great script from Adam Sztykiel that I really loved, and it’s just a function of scheduling,” he said. “You know, Jen’s [Aniston] very busy, and Jason’s [Sudeikis] busy, and I’ve just been making movies back to back, so we just never quite found the time.”
