This Joka, a new stand-up comedy series hosted and executive produced by Will Smith is heading to Quibi. The project is a co-production of Smith’s Westbrook Media and Topgolf Studios.

The mobile short format platform acquired another title, officially adding another project to its lineup of 50-odd shows.

In the series, Smith invites a diverse lineup of up-and-coming, established, and legendary comedians, to explore the nature of comedy. The series will showcase stand-up sets, as well as one-on-one conversations, intimate interviews, and docu-style moments. 

“Will’s love and respect for stand-up comedy runs deep, and with this series on Quibi, we hope to discover, learn from, and uplift the next generation of diverse comedic talent,” said Terence Carter, co-president of Westbrook Studios.

Quibi launches on April 6.

Quibi has dropped the first trailer for Survive starring Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner.

In the series, Turner plays Jane, a young woman who leaves a group home for “the broken, the sad, and the suffering,” only to find herself fighting for her life after her plane crashes on a remote mountain. Paul, played by Corey Hawkins is the only other survivor and together they embark on a journey out of the wilderness, battling brutal conditions and personal traumas.

The show will debut on Quibi’s launch date, April 6.

The Antoine Fuqua-produced project stars Stephan James and Laurence Fishburne. 

“#Freerayshawn tells the story of a young black Iraq War veteran named Rayshawn (James) who is set up by New Orleans police on a drug deal, runs for his life, and takes refuge inside his apartment building with his girlfriend and child. With New Orleans PD and the SWAT team outside ready to storm his home, a social media frenzy begins, as community members and news outlets arrive at the scene. During this growing mayhem, a sympathetic cop named Steven Poincy (Fishburne) plays the role of negotiator, and, over the course of one brutally stressful day, tries to get Rayshawn to calmly surrender in order to avoid an escalation of unnecessary violence.”

The short-format digital platform is set to launch on April 6.

The nature documentary narrated by the Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Reese Witherspoon is told from a female perspective with its specific focus is on female animals. As the trailer puts it — “meet the females who give new meaning to Eat Prey Love.”

The series is produced by BBC Studios Natural History Unit. Jo Shinner serves as an executive producer on the project.

Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel is set to star in Die Hart. She will star opposite series lead Kevin Hart and previously announced John Travolta. 

According to Deadline which was first to report the news, in Die Hart, “Hart plays a fictionalized version of himself who’s tired of being the comedic sidekick. He gets his wish when a famous director offers him his dream – to be a leading man action star – but there’s a catch: he must first train at the world’s greatest action star school, run by a lunatic (Travolta). Pushed to his limits by this action school coach and a tough-minded rival student (Emmanuel), Kevin must survive a series of hilarious, over-the-top action sequences and face his fears if he wants to achieve his dream and land the role of a lifetime.”

Survive, one of Quibi’s “Movie in Chapters,” is based on the novel of the same name by Alex Morel about “the only survivors of a plane crash on a remote snow-covered mountain, who must rely on each other as they battle brutal conditions and personal traumas to make it back to civilization.”

Tuner said at the time of her casting: “I couldn’t be more honored to portray the role of Jane in Survive for Quibi. She’s a complex character fighting against the odds to not only save her life but to also find her own source of strength and courage. I only hope this can impact anyone struggling with self-worth to understand they are braver than they know and to seek the support they need.”

The movie in chapters is described as an action-thriller that “explores the limits of how far someone would go to fight for their life and their family.”

In Most Dangerous Game, Hemsworth’s Dodge Maynard, a terminally ill man is desperate to provide for his pregnant wife before he succumbs to his illness.

Enter Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, who offers Dodge to participate in a 24-hour game where, but he quickly discovers in the deadly game he’s not the hunter, but the prey.

“It’s a 24-hour game. Deposits increase every hour you survive,” Waltz explains in the teaser. “Trust no one, stay paranoid,” he adds.

In Pillow Talk, Lovato will conduct candid, unfiltered conversations with both expert and celebrity guests. The show is slated to explore topics such as activism, body positivity, sex, gender identity, relationships, social media, and wellness.

Lovato said in a statement: “I’ve always considered myself someone that speaks honestly about issues that face my generation,” said Lovato. “We’re excited to bring those frank conversations to a public forum, where people can have the opportunity to relate to the topics and guests while finding room for laughter and learning.”
