Multiple outlets confirm that Rock is officially on board the NBC comedy pilot starring Saving Kenan starring Kenan Thompson. Rock will direct the single-camera pilot about a newly widowed dad (Thompson) determined to be everything for his kids while begrudgingly letting his persistent father-in-law become more involved in their lives.

Rock and Thompson are both Saturday Night Live cast members, with Rock appearing on the show from 1990-93, a decade before Thompson joined in 2003. 

Rock and Thompson will also executive produce the show written by Jackie Clarke. Should the pilot be picked up to series, Rock will continue to exec producer, and Thompson will most likely leave SNL as a full-time cast member.

This isn’t Rock’s first directing gig. According to Variety, he has previously directed the features Head of State, I Think I Love My Wife, and Top Five. He also directed projects for the small screen including Everybody Hates Chris and comedy special Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo.
