Washington portrays Joshua, a hardened ex-special forces agent trying to come to terms with his wife’s disappearance when he’s called upon to track down the Creator—the mastermind behind advanced AI that has the power to end the war…and humanity itself.

He must join forces with an elite team of operatives and journey deep into AI-occupied territory, only to find out that the mysterious world-ending weapon isn’t a destructive device but an AI entity, taking the form of an innocent young child.

The film also stars Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, Allison Janney, Ralph Ineson, and Marc Menchaca, while Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) was in charge of directing it from the script he wrote with Chris Weitz.

The first look at The Creator was unveiled at Comic-Con this spring, and its release date was moved up a week during this event, to September 29.

Directed by Euphoria’s Sam Levinson, this quarantine-shot, black & white drama will give us a poignant take on modern love, and here’s what the official logline has to say about it:

“A filmmaker returns home with his girlfriend following a celebratory movie premiere as he awaits what’s sure to be an imminent critical and financial success. The evening suddenly takes a turn as revelations about their relationships begin to surface, testing the strength of their love.”

Zendaya and Levinson proved they’re a match made in heaven with their series Euphoria. After the production of this show was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they started working on a project they could easily shoot under the current safety protocols. John David Washington came on board, and Malcolm & Marie was born.

This project will have a brief theatrical run in limited theaters this month, before becoming available to Netflix subscribers on February 5th.
