Gunn directed Guardians of the Galaxy and has been most recently working on a new horror film titled BrightBurn. The movie was planned to be released November 30 this year but has now been pushed all the way back to May 23, 2019.

BrightBurn’s release date has been taken by another horror movie called The Possession of Hannah Grace. The placement feature is directed by Diederik Van Roojen and the IMDB description of the movie reads: “When a cop who is just out of rehab takes the graveyard shift in a city hospital morgue, she faces a series of bizarre, violent events caused by an evil entity in one of the corpses.”

The movie delay follows a string of back luck for Gunn. He was fired from Disney earlier this year after they discovered old tweets where he made jokes about sensitive topics. The star publicly apologized, claiming he deeply regrets the jokes and is a “very, very different” person now. Unfortunately, he has not been rehired since apologizing.

It was recently confirmed by his brother, however, that James’ scripts will still be used for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
