When a new movie comes out, it is often tempting to look up reviews on Rotten Tomatoes before deciding whether to buy a ticket. After all, movie theater ticket prices continue to rise and there’s nothing more disappointing then wasting your pocket money on a bad flick.

Unfortunately, some people have a habit of uploading phony reviews before the movie has even come out. This can put people off watching a film that might actually shape up to be enjoyable.

The news comes after “sexist trolls” gave Captain Marvel bad reviews and dropped the audience score from 96 to 54 percent.

“We are disabling the comment function prior to a movie’s release date,” Rotten Tomatoes announced. “Unfortunately, we have seen an uptick in non-constructive input, sometimes bordering on trolling, which we believe is a disservice to our general readership.

“We have decided that turning off this feature for now is the best course of action. Don’t worry though, fans will still get to have their say: once a movie is released, audiences can leave a user rating and comments as they always have.”

So basically, audience reviews on the site should soon be more reliable.
