]]>The list of performers for this year’s ceremony was announced in a statement on Thursday by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and it includes Elton John who will sing “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman and Cynthia Erivo who’ll perform “Stand Up” from Harriet, as well as other nominees for Best Original Song.
Returning to perform on the Oscars stage is Idina Menzel who will belt out the Best Original Song nominee “Into the Unknown” from Frozen 2 alongside Aurora. Randy Newman will perform his Toy Story 4 song “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away” and This Is Us star Chrissy Metz will perform nominee Diane Warren’s song “I’m Standing with You” from Breakthrough.
“We’re excited to have an incredible group of nominees and performers who will deliver one-of-a-kind music moments you will only see on the Oscars,” said Oscar show producers Lynette Howell Taylor and Stephanie Allain.

]]>Elton John, who composed and performed a number of songs for the 1994 animated film, spoke with British GQ of the new iteration of the 1994 animated classic, revealing his disappointment from the new film’s “messed up” music.
“Music was so much a part of the original and the music in the current film didn’t have the same impact. The magic and joy were lost. The soundtrack hasn’t had nearly the same impact in the charts that it had 25 years ago, when it was the bestselling album of the year. The new soundtrack fell out of the charts so quickly, despite the massive box-office success.”
He continued saying that “the creative vision for the film and its music was different this time,” and that he wished that he would have been more involved. “I wasn’t really welcomed or treated with the same level of respect. That makes me extremely sad.”
Lion King banked more than $1 billion worldwide.

]]>Deadline confirms that the Cannes audiences will get to the first look at highly anticipated Elton John biopic.
“We are incredibly honoured and excited to premiere our movie Rocketman at the Cannes film festival on May 16th. This has been a labour of love for all of us and we couldn’t dream of a better launching pad for this very special film,” said producers Rocket Pictures and Marv Films in a statement.
The film is a story about the fantastical human story of John’s breakthrough years. It follows John’s early days as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music up to his eventual musical partnership with Bernie Taupin.
The film stars Taron Egerton as the musical icon. Also on the call sheet are Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Rocketman is directed by Dexter Fletcher, who took the reins on the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody after director Bryan Singer was fired. That film went on to collect close to $900M at the global box office.
The Cannes Film Festival debut will be followed by a May 31 domestic release.

]]>The Kingsman actor is starring as Sir Elton John in the upcoming biopic, Rocketman. At Elton’s annual AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party, the pair put on an incredible performance of the popular Elton hit. The singer even surprised the audience when he harmonized with Taron for the song’s iconic chorus.
Before launching into a remarkable performance, Egerton charmingly smiled: “It’s funny how life turns out it isn’t it?”

The upcoming biopic will cover the life of Sir Elton John, including his romantic life. Richard Madden will be playing Elton’s lover, John Reid. Tom Egerton has revealed that he has recently filmed some pretty steamy scenes for the movie.
“I really threw myself into it, I filmed my first sex scene for this film and it’s with quite a well-known man,” Egerton recently told MTV.
“I do feel the movie we shot is absolutely a celebration of everything that Elton John is and part of that is his sexuality,” he elaborated. “I actually think the gay community will be quite surprised by quite how gay it feels. I’ve loved every second of it.”
Rocketman will be released in cinemas May 17.
