Pratt is following the footsteps of Bill Murray, who voiced our favorite lazy cat in two live-action Garfield movies that came out during the mid-2000s. Unlike these two films, Alcon Entertainment’s take on the iconic cartoon kitty will be fully animated.

Garfield is being developed by a promising creative team. Mark Dindal, whose previous credits include Chicken Little and Emperor’s New Groove, will be in charge of directing the film. David Reynolds, who received an Oscar nod for his work on Finding Nemo, will be writing the script after Alcon acquired the rights to Garfield from his creator Jim Davis.

Pratt is currently attached to Jurassic World: Dominion and several movies in the MCU, including Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. His casting in the role of Garfield comes shortly after he secured the lead in the upcoming Super Mario animated movie, also starring Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Charlie Day as Luigi.

The project unites Chris Pratt and Antoine Fuqua who previously worked together on The Magnificent Seven. 

Pratt stars in the Fuqua-directed project. The two will also executive produce the project. Penning the script is David DiGilio.

The Terminal List follows James Reece (Pratt) after his entire platoon of Navy SEALs is ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission. Reece returns home to his family with conflicting memories of the event and questions about his culpability. However, as new evidence comes to light, Reece discovers dark forces working against him, endangering not only his life but the lives of those he loves.

The film set in a suburban fantasy world, follows two teenage elf brothers who embark on a quest to discover if there is still magic out there. Voicing the two elf brothers are Chris Pratt and Tom Holland.

The trailer, which dropped Thursday, opens with showing the once magical world that the characters live in. “In times of old, the world was full of wonder and magic,” says a narrator. “But times change.” The trailer then cuts to modern day and brothers Ian (Holland) and Barley (Pratt).

The new footage also introduces the voices of Octavia Spencer and Julia Louis-Dreyfus who star as Manticore, whom the brothers visit to retrieve an ancient map and mom Laurel respectively. 

Onward hits theaters on March 6, 2020.
