The post The Biggest Winners of the 2021 SAG Awards appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>This year’s SAG Awards were quite historic because the four acting awards in the movie categories went to POC for the first time ever. The list of winners included Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom leads Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis, Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah), and Youn Yuh-jung (Minari).
Michael Keaton wasn’t in the running for any individual awards this season, but he still managed to make history at the SAG Awards. After picking up the trophy for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture with his The Trial of the Chicago 7 co-stars, he became the first actor to win in this category three times. This win improved Chicago 7’s Oscar chances, but it will still have a tough competition in Minari and Nomadland.
The Crown and Schitt’s Creek dominated the television field at this year’s SAG Awards, but it’s safe to say that the triumph of the first show is a much bigger deal. Unlike Schitt’s Creek, Netflix’s royal drama will be in the running at the upcoming Emmys and its SAG victories solidify its status as a major front-runner.

]]>Chloé Zhao’s Historic Win
Chloé Zhao made history as the second woman to ever win the best director Golden Globe with Nomadland, and it’s highly likely she’ll repeat the same success at the Oscars.
Andra Day’s Upset
Andra Day managed to beat the likes of Viola Davis and Frances McDormand thanks to her glorious performance in The United States vs. Billie Holiday and her Oscar chances are stronger than ever.
Chadwick Boseman’s Triumph
By this point in time, Chadwick Boseman is pretty much a lock to win a posthumous Oscar for his brilliant portrayal in the final movie of his career, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
Supporting Actor Shakeup
In a pretty competitive supporting actor and actress lineup, latecomers are leading the way. Daniel Kaluuya managed to pull an upset with his supporting turn in Judas and the Black Messiah, and so did Jodie Foster with her performance in The Mauritanian.
“The Crown” Supreme
Not all of the big moments of the night were that surprising, and that’s the case with the triumph of The Crown. Its big wins cemented its status as the top contender at the upcoming SAG Awards and Emmys.

]]>Netflix dropped the trailer for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom starring Viola Davis, Glynn Turman, Colman Domingo, Michael Potts, and the late Chadwick Boseman. The film marks Boseman’s posthumous and last performance.
The film, a part of a major deal with Netflix to turn nine of Wilson’s iconic plays into films, was penned by Ruben Santiago-Hudson and directed by George C. Wolfe.
In Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, tensions and temperatures escalate throughout the course of an afternoon recording session in 1920s Chicago.
During a press event, Davis said, “Chadwick was an artist. That’s who he was. He loved it. He demanded it in every single way. He was incredible.” Director Wolfe added, “Chadwick put his entire being into Levee. Levee demands that herculean scale of the role. He’s a phenomenal character. [Boseman] put every ounce of energy, heart, and passion [into it].”

]]>The project has been described as a story of “Vietnam veterans who go back to the jungle to find their lost innocence and put their broken selves back together.” Da 5 Bloods will be distributed by Netflix, and it serves as Lee’s first feature film with the streaming giant.
Lee co-wrote the screenplay with his BlacKkKlansman collaborator Kevin Wilmott. Their draft is based on the original version by Danny Bilson and Paul DeMeo and a rewrite by Matthew Billingsley. In addition to writing and directing, Lee will also be in charge of producing this project, along with Beatriz Levin, Lloyd Levin and Jon Kilik.
Production on Da 5 Bloods probably won’t start before March. Lee is currently busy with his Oscar campaign for BlacKkKlansman, which received a total of six nods at this year’s ceremony, which is taking place on February 24.

]]>The anticipated movie will be brought to you by STXfilms. Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo will produce alongside Boseman and his writing partner Logan Coles.
The story follows a disgraced NYPD detective (Boseman) who is given a shot at redemption after being thrust into a citywide manhunt for a cop killer. Adam Mervis has penned the script.
“STX has assembled a dream team of collaborators on 17 Bridges, bringing together the global talents behind two of the biggest action films ever made to give audiences a thrilling new take on the race-against-the-clock crime-drama,” STXfilms chairman Adam Fogelson said.
“Chadwick Boseman’s razor-sharp instincts and undeniable charisma captivated millions of people around the world in Black Panther, and Joe and Anthony Russo have breathed a new energy into the action genre with films like Avengers: Infinity War,” he added.
“Their unique and intelligent approach to film-making is anything but formulaic, and with Brian Kirk at the helm directing, this film promises to go beyond the typical popcorn fare.”
Production for the movie is due to start in September.

Fans screamed with delight at the shock of meeting him and one fan shouted “My King! My King!” in reference to the movie. The genuine reactions from the fans are touching and a real pleasure to watch. One woman praised Boseman by saying:
“There’s so many of us out here trying to create great things and I was so inspired, as someone who wants to make movies one day, who wants to inspire people, that art can really change the world.”
Boseman humbly thanked her and the rest of the fans for their kind words, seeming genuinely touched by their support. You can watch the whole clip here:
Black Panther’s success continues to climb and it recently achieved a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is Marvell’s third highest grossing cinematic release, ranking only after the two Avengers movies.
