]]>Bernstein made a name for himself in Hollywood after writing scores for Broadway’s West Side Story and Marlon Brando’s film On the Waterfront, but his love life attracted as much attention as his work. His complex relationship with actress Felicia Montealegre spanned three decades, but he famously had countless affairs during their time together.
Maestro will chronicle “a towering and fearless love story” of the infamous couple, and Netflix describes it as “a love letter to life and art” and “an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love.”
The supporting cast of Maestro includes Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Josh Hamilton, Scott Ellis, Gideon Glick, Sam Nivola, Alexa Swinton, and Miriam Shor. In addition to playing the lead role, Cooper also directed the film and co-wrote the script alongside the Oscar winner Josh Singer.
Maestro will have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on September 2, before heading to theatres on November 22 and streaming on Netflix on December 20.

]]>The film, which has yet to be titled, is about the marriage between Bernstein and his wife Felicia Montealegre. Cooper and Josh Singer, the Oscar-winning writer of Spotlight co-wrote the film and Cooper will star, direct, and produce it.
Also producing the untitled film are Martin Scorses, Steven Spielberg, and the Joker’s Todd Phillips.
Scott Stuber, Netflix’s Head of Film said about Cooper directing this film, “His strong passion and clear vision for bringing to life the relationship between the iconic composer Leonard Bernstein and his wife Felicia Montealegre promises to do their lives justice as only this renowned filmmaking team can. We are honored to be working with the Bernsteins to share their family’s story with audiences everywhere.”
The Bernstein film’s production will start early next year and there will be a theatrical release before the film premiers on Netflix. It’s a follow-up to Cooper’s Oscar-nominated A Star Is Born.

]]>Multiple outlets report Cate Blanchett is in negotiations to join the Oscar-winning director’s adaptation of the 1946 novel by William Lindsay Gresham. This is the second time the novel will be adapted for the big screen, having been made into a feature film in 1947.
Del Toro also co-wrote the script with Kim Morgan. Del Toro is producing and financing the film alongside J. Miles Dale and TSG Entertainment.
Per Variety, Nightmare Alley follows a con-man who teams up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy success with their mentalist act, but then she turns the tables on him.
Nightmare Alley is Del Toro’s follow-up to The Shape of Water, which won Best Picture.
